Communication Excellence’s (ACE)
Research Award of Excellence,
university officials announced this

The Texas Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit at Texas Tech has been honored with a 2015
‘Excellence in Science’ Award from the U.S. Geological Survey, officials announced this month. The unit
is a partnership between Texas Tech, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, U.S. Geological Survey, The
Wildlife Management Institute and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Officials noted that the unit
celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary in 2014 and continues to be, “a model for student-focused
collaboration and cooperation. The Texas unit is exceptional in every aspect of research, graduate
education, and technical assistance to cooperators.” more »

CASNR Agricultural Awareness Week features Bruce Vincent on April
21
Montana timber man Bruce Vincent, will be a featured speaker at 6 p.m. on Tuesday
(Apr. 21) in the Red Raider Ballroom in Texas Tech’s Student Union Building. Hosted by
Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources Agricultural Awareness
Week, admission to the presentation which will focus on environmental stewardship is
free and open to the public. more »
GALLERY: Concrete first floor poured in new Bayer Plant Science
Building
For part of March a line of concrete trucks moved in and out of CASNR’s new Bayer
Plant Science Building as construction workers put in place the building’s first floor.
Meantime, above them, workers continued to set the metal core of the building.
During March’s snowstorms, much or the building was wrapped in dark plastic sheets,
but by Spring break blue skies returned to the Hub City. more »
Undefeated Spring; Tech wins Houston Livestock Show’s meat judging
contest
Texas Tech University meat judging team in the Department of Animal and Food
Sciences finished its spring competition season undefeated in three events after taking

Texas Tech Board of Regents announce promotions for CASNR faculty
members
Texas Tech’s Board of Regents approved the academic advancement of eight leading
College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources faculty members earlier this
month. Among those receiving a promotion in academic rank are Todd Brashears with
the Department of Agricultural Education and Communication, and Chance Brooks
with the Department of Animal and Food Sciences. more »

AFS’s Lindsey wins AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse Amateur World
Championship
The director of the Texas Tech’s Equestrian Center reined in a top national honor this
month in the horse world. Kim Lindsey and her talented buckskin gelding Judys Ten
won the American Quarter Horse Association’s Versatility Ranch Horse Amateur World
Championship in Houston. Lindsey joined Tech’s Department of Animal and Food
Sciences in 2012. more »
TAWC Director Rick Kellison set to speak at Amsterdam Denim Days
Among the speakers on tap in April for fibers portion of Amsterdam Denim Days will be
Rick Kellison, project director for Texas Alliance for Water Conservation, which is
based at Texas Tech. Kellison will address recent advancements that his research
organization has accomplished over the last decade, including drip irrigation, weather
stations, and underground moisture sensing. more »

Thirty-one CASNR students honored as Dean’s Scholars Award winners
at ICC
Top academic standouts from CASNR were recognized as Dean’s Scholars this month at
a special ceremony held in the International Cultural Center’s Hall of Nations. The
awards, funded by various donations to the college, are based on academic excellence
as well as leadership, character and citizenship, said CASNR Dean Michael Galyean.

NRM’s Roesler receives American Fisheries Society presentation award
A graduate student with Texas Tech’s Department of Natural Resources Management
received the ‘Best Student Oral Presentation Award” at a meeting of the American
Fisheries Society Arizona-New Mexico Chapter. Elizabeth Roesler, a master’s student
from Chicago, received the honor at the group’s annual convention in Las Cruces, NM.
