Chairman Steve Fraze was honored with the Outstanding Agricultural Educator Award, and Associate Professor Courtney Meyers was selected to receive the Outstanding Researcher Award. more » ON THE SCENE ‘Rain Stones’ becomes Bayer Plant Science Building centerpiece sculpture Tech’s Public Art Committee selected Rebecca Thompson as the commissioned artist for the Bayer Plant Science Building. The sculpture, called “Rain Stones,” is made from Texas sandstone and incorporates bronze elements. It is described as an interactive experience designed to integrate with the courtyard space. more » Texas Tech’s continued commitment to agricultural education and research took another step forward on Oct. 30 with the opening of the new Bayer Plant Science Building. Thanks to Bayer CropScience, a major partner in funding agricultural initiatives both in Lubbock and within the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, the Bayer Plant Science Building will provide students with a state-ofthe-art facility to learn and conduct research, as well as collaborate on projects with fellow students. more » Researchers find patches of heavy metals along Colorado, New Mexico river CASNR’s David Weindorf found scattered accumulations of heavy metals along a 60mile stretch of riverbank in Colorado and New Mexico a month after the Gold King Mine wastewater spill and that any potential threat to crops and livestock should be studied further. “There’s a risk those metals could work their way into our food chain or the food chain for animals,” he said. more » Texas Tech Meat Judging Team captures crown at American Royal contest Texas Tech’s Meat Judging team continued its strong showing this fall by taking first place at the American Royal Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest in Omaha, Neb. Tech captured the win by just three points over the University of Wyoming, 4,098-4,095.
