As the economy becomes more global each day, Texas Tech University students striving for a career in
the agribusiness field are now being given the opportunity to learn on an international scale.
Specifically, Tech’s Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics is making that possible with a
newly launched international agriculture business program. Phillip Johnson, chairman of the
department, said this is an excellent opportunity for Texas Tech students. The program can be
incorporated into either an agricultural economics degree or an agricultural business degree. Even
students outside the department can gain the experience by way of a minor in international
agribusiness. more »
AFS professor joins international team receiving $1M USDA food safety
grant
Two Texas Tech researchers are part of a team that has been awarded one of 35 food
safety grants by the USDA that promotes safe, nutritious food. Guy Loneragan, a
professor of food safety and public health in the Department of Animal and Food
Sciences, and Mayukh Dass with the Rawls College of Business, are part of a team led
by Texas A&M researcher H. Morgan Scott. more »
Winter Welcome: Ranch Horse Team member named ‘Mr. CASNR’
Tanner Cadra was recognized as Mr. CASNR at the Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources Winter Welcome program on Jan. 27 in the university’s
Student Union Building. Cadra, a senior environmental soil and water science major
from Shamrock, represented the Texas Tech Ranch Horse Team. more »
Sanja Zivkovic joins Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics
Sanja Zivkovic has been named an assistant professor in agribusiness with the
Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics. She stepped into her new teaching
and research post on Jan. 1. The Serbian native indicated that she is particularly
interested in continuing her research efforts on agribusiness management and
map database

CISER provides CASNR undergraduates with real-world research
experience
For years Texas Tech’s Center for the Integration of STEM Education and Research has
offered an authentic research experience for College of Agricultural Sciences and
Natural Resources undergraduates, starting with what’s known as the Undergraduate
Research Scholars. STEM is shorthand for science, technology, engineering and math.

Texas Tech Meat Judging Team wins second straight competition in
Fort Worth
Tech’s meat judging team continued its strong start to the spring season, capturing its
second straight victory of the semester by taking first place at the Southwestern
Intercollegiate Meat Judging Contest on Jan. 31 in Fort Worth. Cole Perkins, a
sophomore from Llano, led Tech by finishing in the top three in four individual
categories to finish third overall with 1,022 points. more »
Twenty-seven CASNR students honored as Dean’s Scholars Award
winners
Top academic standouts from Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural
Resources were recognized as Dean’s Scholars on Jan. 27 at a special ceremony held in
the Student Union Building’s Matador Room. The awards, funded by various donations
to the college, are based on academic excellence as well as leadership, character and

freshmen
Eighteen years old, packing to leave home and setting out on a new venture called
college. Many incoming freshmen can feel nervous, excited and anxious all at the same
time, and it can be overwhelming for most. To make that path a little smoother, Tech’s
College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources has a proven program to help
