Resources received awards for their quality teaching and research during the university’s annual
Faculty Honors Convocation on Apr. 21 in the Red Raider Ballroom of Tech’s Student Union Building.
Separately, during the ceremony Emeritus Faculty Certificates were presented to Max Miller with the
Department of Animal and Food Sciences and Stephan Maas with the Department of Plant and Soil

Faculty, top students highlight CASNR Honors Banquet at Alumni
Center
Standout students, staff and faculty from across Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources were honored Apr. 21 at its annual Honors Banquet at
the university’s McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center in Lubbock. Sponsored by the Ag
Council, the event featured a variety of honors. Holton Westbrook with Agricultural &
Applied Economics was named CASNR’s outstanding student. more »
Second trailer released; ‘Between Earth and Sky’ film moves toward
completion
Between Earth and Sky, a collaborative film effort featuring CASNR’s Associate Dean for
Research David Weindorf, has released its second film trailer on
www.betweenearthandskymovie.com. The film is the first of its kind to explore global
climate change through the lens of soil science by shining a light on arctic soils and
ecosystems, and the livelihood of Alaskan-Americans. more »
Texas Tech names new leadership for Department of Landscape
Architecture
A nationally-recognized leader in landscape water resource management has been
named the new chairman of Tech’s Department of Landscape Architecture on April 19.

announced the launch of a new agricultural communications master’s level graduate

AEC professor receives Winrock’s Presidential Volunteer Service Award
DID YOU KNOW?
David Lawver, a professor in Tech’s Department of Agricultural Education and
Communications, has been selected to receive a Presidential Volunteer Service Award
from Little Rock-based Winrock International. Established in 2003, the award is
available on an annual basis to individuals who’ve met or exceeded requirements for
volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship. more »

Soil Judging Team shines in national soil judging competition at Kansas
State
Texas Tech’s Soil Judging Team took eighth place at the National Soil Judging Contest
held April 7-8 at Kansas State University in Manhattan. Sponsored by the American
Society of Agronomy, the event included 23 teams from across the nation. The Red
Raiders were led by two individual performances: David Brockman, a senior from
Newcastle and Trey Roach, a senior from Keller. more »
AFS’s Baggerman receives NACTA Graduate Student Teaching Award
UPCOMING
A doctoral student with Texas Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences has
been selected to receive this year’s North American Colleges and Teachers of
Agriculture (NACTA) Graduate Student Teaching Award. Jessica Baggerman, a native of
Pampa, will receive the honor at the group’s annual conference in June at the

Steadfast Leader; CASNR receives OIA Campus Internationalization
Award
Texas Tech’s CASNR has been selected to receive this year’s Campus
Internationalization Award. The honor, presented on April 8 by the university’s Office
of International Affairs, is part of the groups’ annual Global Vision Awards program.
Erica Irlbeck, an associate professor in the Department of Agricultural Education and
Communications, accepted the award for CASNR. more »

Texas Tech Chancellor Robert Duncan welcomed students, staff, and faculty to
CASNR’s Town Hall Discussion on the Development of a Veterinary School. The event,
held on Mar. 30 at the Animal and Food Sciences building, featured a review of the
strengths Tech’s animal science and health programs hold on the Texas South Plains
and Panhandle by CASNR Dean Michael Galyean. more »

A Good Run; Texas Tech livestock, wool judging teams wrap up spring
season
The Texas Tech Livestock and Wool Judging teams wrapped up a strong spring season
with solid performances at the Houston and San Antonio stock shows. The livestock
team took first place at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Intercollegiate
Livestock Judging Contest on Mar. 14. Tech outpaced rivals Oklahoma State and Kansas
