Arizona 4-H Youth
Foundation
National 4-H Conference
During the week of March 24-29, 2007, The Arizona 4-H
Youth Foundation will be sending five 4-H’ers, ages 15 to
17 to the National 4-H Conference. Held each year in
Washington D.C., delegates will stay at the National 4-H
Center in Chevy Chase, MD. Based on the theme “Our
Changing World”, conference delegates will reflect upon
the question, “As the world changes, how do we continue
to enhance the 4-H Youth Development Program to ensure
we are being socially significant and relevant to meet the
needs of young people today?” During their stay in the
nation’s capitol, 4-H’ers will participate in many
workshops dedicated to assisting in the development of
recommendations to help guide 4-H Youth Development
Programs nationally and in their communities. The
conference brings together youth, volunteer leaders, and
state and county Extension staff members from across the
United States, the U.S. Territories, and the Canadian
Provinces. In addition to discussing issues and challenges
associated with the 4-H program, attendees will get a
chance to meet their respective representatives in Congress.
Tribute to Jim Faul and Marvin Morrison
Jim Faul was born June 8, 1910 in Windthorst,
Saskatchewan, Canada. He graduated from Florence High
School in 1930 and was a cotton farmer and cattle rancher
in the Coolidge area beginning in 1929. He was a friend of
many and loved by those who knew him. Jim and his wife,
Mary, supported 4-H in Arizona for more than 70 years and
aided the University of Arizona College Agriculture and
Life Sciences Boyce Thomas Arboretum and the Ag
Ventures program at the Maricopa Agricultural Center.
They have helped many students further their education. In
2002, The Faul 4-H Learning Center was dedicated at the
Pinal County Fairgrounds. Jim Faul
served for more than 40 years on the
Pinal County Cooperative Extension
Advisory Board, with 31 of those as
president, and received the Lifetime
Award from the College of Life
Sciences in 1995.
Marvin Morrison is widely remembered as a man who
never raised his voice and was the first one to lend a hand.
Born in Gilbert in 1923, Arizona was his home. His wife of
62 years said her husband “was the most generous man
with his time, talents and finances”
that she ever met. 4-H definitely
benefited from his many talents.
With a passion for education,
agriculture and technology, he
committed his resources to the
community. He served as a community leader of the Gilbert 4-H
Club in 1947 and eventually became
president of the Arizona 4-H Youth
Foundation. His belief in a strong 4-H board continues to
influence our current board. He received recognition from
the United States Department of Agriculture in 1985 as a
National Partner of 4-H.

heart that keep on giving in perpetuity. Legacy gifts strengthen the 4-H program and touch the lives of Arizona
4-H Youth in so many meaningful ways. For information on how you can establish an endowment that provides

Why 4-H?
An organization’s success might easily be measured when true products from the program are
returning to give the same opportunities to others. 4-H makes it easy for people like recent Foundation
donor John Sparks and his family to “give back to the organization that has gotten us where we are and
what we have.” To John and his family, 4-H is not just agriculture for youth, it is a family tradition, that
is passed on
generation to generation. When asked, John will tell you that is why he donates to 4-H.
Our thanks to John and his family for believing in what we do and helping us “make the best, better”

4-H Forum
The 2007 Western Region 4-H Forum was a huge
success!
Arizona hosted over 300 youth and
adult volunteers and extension professionals from
16 U.S. states, Canada, and American Samoa, as
well as our 4-H Military Partners from Osan Air
Force Base (Korea), Kadena Air Force Base
(Japan), Davis-Monthan Air Force Base (Tucson),
Yuma Proving Grounds and our Operation: Military
Kids Program. We were fortunate to have over 100
workshops presented by 4-H
teens, 4-H volunteers, Extension
faculty and staff, and five
commercial organizations.
In
addition, we had 13 commercial
exhibitors and vendors on-site,
and over 100 items up for bid
during our Silent Auction.
As the 4-H Motto states,
Arizona 4-H aims “To
Make the Best Better” and
are thrilled to have had the
opportunity to do so
through the Forum! The
Forum helped to create an enriching educational
experience for our participants and emphasized
youth and adult partnerships. Now, our 300+
participants have returned to their own communities
and local 4-H programs. They are eagerly beginning
to share the skills and knowledge they gained
during the Forum throughout their communities and
in doing so, they will further energize their local 4-H
programs, as well as continue positively impacting
their local communities across the globe.
