THE SPIRITUAL EXERCISES IN EVERY DAY LIFE
– Do you have any desire to make the Spiritual
Exercises of St. Ignatius, integrating them
into your everyday life? Would you like
to learn more about Spiritual Direction?
Would you like to learn more about some
of the ways of praying that St. Ignatius
used? In preparation for the Spiritual
Exercises in Every Day Life, which will be offered
beginning in the fall of 2007, the parish is offering
monthly gatherings on prayer and spiritual direction,
on Tuesday evenings, October 17th, November 21st
and December 19th from 7:15 pm – 9:00 pm. Please
let us know at the rectory if you would like to come
and/or find more about these evenings.
L ITTLE R OCK B IBLE GROUP – St. Ignatius Bible
Study Group meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:15
pm in the Lannon Chapel. We will be studying the
Book of Job. This story speaks eloquently of the
mystery of human suffering. Listen to God’s word in
the midst of pain. There is a $12 fee. The program
began on October 4th. For information, please call
John Dafarra at 781-899-9540 or to register, call the
rectory at 617-552-6102.

you aware that the parish has an
ongoing book discussion group that
meets monthly in the rectory living
room on the second floor? The next
meeting, which will take place after the 10:00 am
Liturgy on October 22nd, will focus on the following
short stories, “Obasan”, “LoveMedicine” and
“Cathedral” from A Celestial Omnibus: Short Fiction
on Faith.

SPIRITUAL LIFE OPPORTUNITIES
St. Ignatius offers many opportunities to develop your spiritual life through
prayer groups, retreats, days of prayer, etc., but sometimes people don’t think that they know enough
about prayer and spiritual direction to engage themselves in these wonderful experiences of personal and
spiritual development. So, why not take advantage of some of the ongoing and special opportunities
and see if they are for you?
PRAYER GROUPS – Meet with a group of your
fellow parishioners to reflect on Sunday
scriptures and share your faith. One group
meets at 7:00 am every other Tuesday morning
at the rectory. Most other groups meet on
weekday evenings at the Rectory. For more
information, contact Fr. Bob at 617-552-6110,
email: frvereec@bc.edu.
SPIRITUAL C ONVERSATION – What’s it all
about? You may have heard that it’s good to
have a spiritual director, but are not sure what
that means. Why not come to a monthly
gatherine of parishioners who are interested in
learning more about prayer and spiritual
direction. This is especially opportune for those
who might be interested in doing the Spiritual
Exercises in Everyday Life which will be held on
Tuesday evenings, October 17th, November 21st
and December 19th at 7:15 – 9:00 pm. For more
information, contact Fr. Ken at 17-552-6113,
email: loftuske@bc.edu or Richard Moynihan at
617-552-6117, email: moynihar@bc.edu.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
OUTREACH MINISTRIES SIGN-UP WEEKEND is this weekend. Look for materials
and agency representatives in the gathering space of the upper church.
COMING:
We’ll be having our annual winter clothing collection for the Guests at Shattuck
Shelter on the weekend of October 28th/29th. This will be a collection of winter clothing only –
gently used and clean sweaters, coats, warm jackets, warm pants, boots, gloves and scarves.
Reminder: 80% of the Guests are male.
WOULD YOU CARE TO JOIN THE ICE CREAM CLUB? Each month, a group of
dedicated parish volunteers serves dinner at Shattuck Shelter, including the great desserts provided
by members of our faith community. Dessert is topped off with ice cream – a real treat for the
Shelter Guests. Would you care to underwrite the cost of one ice cream “order” this coming year?
That cost is $80. If you’re interested, please contact Sr. Diane by phone or email: 617-552-6107 or
vallerio@bc.edu. Or drop your donation off at the Rectory. Thank you!
ST. IGNATIUS HABITAT- FOR- HUMANITY
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS!
Do you have a flexible work schedule?
Volunteers are needed to join a team of St.
Ignatius parishioners that will be
working at a Habitat-for-Humanity
construction site on Blue Hill Avenue
in Dorchester on Wednesday,
November 8th. You can do it! Energy
and enthusiasm are the only requirements -- no
prior construction experience necessary. Spend
the day working to “build hope by building
homes” in partnership with low-income families
in need of decent housing. To sign up, e-mail
Anton Finelli at afinelli@crmcx.com. Don't know
one end of a hammer from the other? You can be
an important part of our Habitat efforts by
sponsoring our parish volunteers. Look for the
sponsor sign-up form on the table in the Gathering Space.

WELCOMING, HONORING & RECEIVING CHILDREN
Ellen Hanley Children’s Book
Collection: Blessing, Dedication and
Reception
Sunday, November 5th at 11:15 am in the
Lannon Chapel
In memory of Ellen Hanley’s contribution to the
Family Mass Sunday liturgy, and to her faithfilled presence of teaching and love for our
children, we are building a collection of
children’s books which will become a lending
library for the children and adults of our parish.
You are invited to make a financial and/or book
contribution by bringing them to the St. Ignatius
Rectory by October 15th. Please join us in the
blessing and dedication on November 5th.
Gifts and Graces: The Ministry of
Godparenting
Tuesday, October 17th , 2006 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Rectory
Every Godparent can benefit from an evening of
reflection on specific ways to journey with the
child parents have entrusted to your loving
presence. If you are preparing to be a Godparent
or would like to re-envision your ministry to
your Godchild, come to an evening which will
include the naming of your gifts. Deepen your
gifts as a sacred storyteller; pray for your
Godchild. Bring a picture and/or story of a
moment with your godchild.
Book Group Discussion on Well Said:
Children’s Words of Wisdom by Sr. Bridget
Haase, Sunday, November 5th 8:45 a.m. to 9:45

by Patricia Fazzone An exploration of the topics
of life, poverty, love, family, the future, death
and God as seen through the hearts and eyes of
children, this book is intended to open our

manifest in the children in our lives. An
invitation to read the work of a local author
whose website http://wonderwisdom.com/
will complement our discussion. Copies will be
available for purchase on October 15th at the St.
Ignatius Rectory.
Whoever Welcomes a Child….A Ministry
of Welcome to the Families of Newly Baptized
Children begins this autumn at St. Ignatius
Church. The joys and blessings of a child’s
baptism is followed by the day-to-day challenge
of parenting and is a time for support and
community. If you would like to participate in
this ministry of welcome that might include a
phone call, conversation at liturgy, the sending
of a card or some other expression of welcome
during the weeks following baptism, please
contact Patricia Fazzone by leaving at note in
her mailbox at the St. Ignatius Church Rectory.
