SPIRITUAL LIFE OPPORTUNITIES
St. Ignatius offers many opportunities to develop your spiritual life through
prayer groups, retreats, days of prayer, etc., but sometimes people don’t think that they know enough
about prayer and spiritual direction to engage themselves in these wonderful experiences of personal and
spiritual development. So, why not take advantage of some of the ongoing and special opportunities
and see if they are for you?
PRAYER GROUPS – Meet with a group of your
fellow parishioners to reflect on Sunday
scriptures and share your faith. One group
meets at 7:00 am every other Tuesday morning
at the rectory. Most other groups meet on
weekday evenings at the Rectory. For more
information, contact Fr. Bob at 617-552-6110,
email: frvereec@bc.edu.
“GETTING READY FOR ADVENT:
PRAYING WITH THE ADVENT
SCRIPTURES” – with Fr. Bob VerEecke, S.J.
on Saturday, November 18th from 9:30 – 3:00 pm
at the Jesuit Urban Center. Watch the bulletin
for more details about these prayer days or
contact Fr. Bob.
SPIRITUAL C ONVERSATION – What’s it all
about? You may have heard that it’s good to
have a spiritual director, but are not sure what
that means. Why not come to a monthly
gathering of parishioners who are interested in
learning more about prayer and spiritual
direction. This is especially opportune for those
who might be interested in doing the Spiritual
Exercises in Everyday Life which will be held on
Tuesday evenings, November 21st and
December 19th at 7:15 – 9:00 pm. For more
information, contact Fr. Ken at 17-552-6113,
email: loftuske@bc.edu or Richard Moynihan at
617-552-6117, email:
moynihar@bc.edu.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
THIS WEEKEND:
We’ll be having our annual winter clothing collection for the Adult
Guests at Shattuck Shelter. Marked boxes are at church entrances. If you forgot your donation,
you may bring it to the Rectory by 7PM on Monday! Thank you!
HELPING OUT THOSE IN NEED: The temperatures are dropping and we expect an
increase in the number of persons who come to us, seeking assistance with providing food for
their family. You can help by donating gift cards from Stop & Shop or Shaw’s/Star. $10 gift
cards are best. Bring your donation to the Rectory or drop it in the collection basket on the
weekend. We are very low on cards right now! Thank you!
NEEDED:
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY VOLUNTEERS AND
SPONSORS… We still need volunteers to join a team of St. Ignatius parishioners
that will be working at a Habitat site on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester on
Wednesday, November 8th. Energy and enthusiasm are the only requirements -- no
prior construction experience necessary. Spend the day working to “build hope by
building homes” in partnership with low-income families in need of decent housing. To sign up, e-mail
Anton Finelli at afinelli@crmcx.com. Don't know one end of a hammer from the other? You can be an
important part of our Habitat efforts by sponsoring our parish volunteers. Look for the sponsor sign-up form
on the table in the Gathering Space. Perhaps your business or firm would like to sponsor our Builders??
COMING: November 11th: Sign-up sheets go out for the December 3rd Shattuck Holiday Meal.
November 15th: Senior Parishioners’ Fall gathering, including an Outreach activity.
More
details to come!
November 18th:
Christmas Gift Drive begins.
Ornaments will be on the tree in the
Gathering Space.
November 23rd: The Thanksgiving Day collection will be sent to St. Anne’s, Kingston, Jamaica,
for the holiday needs of its parishioners. If you’ll be away and would like to make a donation,
please mark a check or cash envelope for St. Anne’s and drop it in the collection or at the
Rectory.
WELCOMING, HONORING & RECEIVING CHILDREN
Ellen Hanley Children’s Book Collection:
Blessing, Dedication and Reception
Sunday, November 5th at 11:15 am in the
Lannon Chapel
In memory of Ellen Hanley’s contribution to the
Family Mass Sunday liturgy, and to her faithfilled presence of teaching and love for our
children, we are building a collection of
children’s books which will become a lending
library for the children and adults of our parish.
You are invited to make a financial and/or book
contribution by bringing them to the St. Ignatius
Rectory by October 15th. Please join us in the
blessing and dedication on November 5th.
Book Group Discussion on Well Said:
Children’s Words of Wisdom by Sr.
Bridget Haase, Sunday, November 5th 8:45 a.m.
to 9:45 a.m. Second Floor Living Room: Rectory.
Led by Patricia Fazzone An exploration of the
topics of life, poverty, love, family, the future,
death and God as seen through the hearts and
eyes of children, this book is intended to open
our understanding of the gift of wisdom as it is
manifest in the children in our lives. An
invitation to read the work of a local author
whose website http://wonderwisdom.com/
will complement our discussion. Copies will be
available for purchase at St. Ignatius Rectory.
Whoever Welcomes a Child….A Ministry
of Welcome to the Families of Newly Baptized
Children begins this autumn at St. Ignatius
Church. The joys and blessings of a child’s
baptism is followed by the day-to-day challenge
of parenting and is a time for support and
community. If you would like to participate in
this ministry of welcome that might include a
phone call, conversation at liturgy, the sending
of a card or some other expression of welcome
during the weeks following baptism, please
contact Patricia Fazzone by leaving at note in
her mailbox at the St. Ignatius Church Rectory.
