I t was p r o p o s e d i n C ( 6 9 ) 5 0 t h a t t h e employed m a n ' s flat-rate c o n t r i b u t i o n s i x - a i d go up by 1 s . 6 d . and t h e g r a d u a t e d c o n t r i b u t i o n on e a r n i n g s b e t w e e n £ 1 8 and £ 3 0 p e r week from iffo t o 2j^o, The p a p e r e x p l a i n e d t h a t t h e y i e l d of t h e s e i n c r e a s e d c o n t r i b u t i o n s was t h e minimum n e e d e d f o r t h e s a f e t y of t h e F u n d . This i s it without a l l o w i n g f o r t h e c h a n c e t h a t e x p e r i e n c e w i l l once more p r o v e w o r s e t h a n the e s t i m a t e . next A p r i l , I f we p o s t p o n e d , s a y , one q u a r t e r of t h e i n c r e a s e until t h e Fund would b e d e p l e t e d b y a f u r t h e r £30 m i l l i o n - £40 m i l l i o n t h i s y e a r and there would be a s e r i o u s r i s k of h a v i n g t o go b a c k t o t h e Commons f o r a u t h o r i t y t o make a f u r t h e r w i t h d r a w a l from t h e Reserve Fund. 11. A p a r t from a l l t h i s , t h e C h a n c e l l o r ha,s made h i s B u d g e t calculations on t h e u n d e r s t a n d i n g t h a t t h e f u l l i n c r e a s e i n c o n t r i b u t i o n s would be secured t h i s 12. year.
