Student Questions (6-11-14)
Q.) Will we learn about limits?
A.) Most likely not. We might get to some concepts that can be related to limits. This
course is actually not supposed to teach you calculus. It is more about stretching your
brain, communicating mathematics, and making sure you don’t have a summer with no
math. (What kind of a summer is that anyway? J)
Q.) Nice patience today.
A.) Thank you. There is no point in moving on if something is not entirely understood.
You guys can also help each other make sure everyone is on board.
Q.) Do we need to memorize the two forms of equations of a line that we talked
about today?
A.) Finding an equation of a line is a skill that you will need very often if you pursue
math and science. You will need to be well adept at this so if that means you need to
memorize them then that would not be a bad idea. However, if you know what each part
of the equation represents and why it is there then it will be easier to remember that
equation. Plus lots of practice helps too.
Q.) How do I better prepare for a test? I always forget everything I study.
A.) Knowing what the test covers and practicing similar problems is always good.
Another idea that not many people think of is to take a concept that will be on the test and
see if you can come up with your own problem that has to do with that concept (then
solve it). This will help you remember concepts as well as what kinds of problems are
associated with those concepts.
Q.) What is your favorite city?
A.) Florence, Italy. I went there once for a week and it is beautiful. After all, it is where
the renaissance started.
Q.) What is your name?
A.) Rumplestilskin but don’t tell anybody!
Q.) What is your favorite color?
A.) The same color as the shirt I wore today……………………………green.
