The Regional DC power system with Global Muscle ACTURA® 4855 -48 V DC, 3-40 kW, 60-800 A Reliability or Price Efficiency? Now you can have both! Customized power systems with high reliability – at a competitive price – is an argument that has existed as long as power systems. Both bring undisputable advantages. Emerson is now introducing a new generation of power systems offering the best of both worlds, thanks to a new approach not only to the product, but also to design, production, system verification and the logistics set-up. Fast customization Emerson’s new power system ACTURA® 4855 is based on a concept with modular building blocks designed to meet present and future capacity and functionality needs. The concept allows the regional configuration center to “put together” an almost unlimited number of configurations, easily and quickly, to fulfill your new needs or site-specific requirements. As your business grows, ACTURA® 4855 also permits easy capacity extensions or functionality upgrades during live operation. 2 Electronics benefit from volume – both in terms of reliability and price Electronic systems like rectifiers and controllers benefit from substantial initial design and production investment. Additional design loops, rigorous design verification, automated assembly and final testing – all result in better products with higher and less varying quality. To achieve this – at a competitive unit cost – large-volume production is required. DC power for small to medium size applications in wireless and wireline networks. Global building blocks To achieve the highest possible volumes, Emerson decided that all new rectifiers and controllers should be used globally. These building blocks are based on telecom requirements and design specifications from Emerson’s regional design centers all around the world. This strategic decision has now resulted in centralized manufacturing of many thousands of global building blocks per month. After thorough testing, the building blocks are shipped to regional configuration centers, where they are integrated into different regional systems. Price efficient mechanics complying with regional telecom standards and norms The requirements and preferences for the nonelectronics part of a power system, such as the rack/cabinet and distribution, vary greatly in different parts of the world. The footprint, EMC shielding, earthquake sustainability and cabling routes are some of the variables. Circuit breaker configurations are also sitespecific in many cases. Since most volume advantages for electronics do not apply to mechanics, the mechanical portions of power systems are best designed and produced and tested close to the markets and customers they will serve. Local support – globally Emerson’s building-block based design, manufacturing and logistics strategy combines local adaptability of the mechanics with unsurpassed volumes of rectifiers and controllers for ACTURA® 4855. But our goal to customize our offering for your needs does not stop there. Whenever you need support for any of our products or their applications, we are always close by through our local companies and partners all around the world. That’s why Emerson Network Power’s new AC & DC distribution units, battery connection units, racks and cabinets are manufactured as regional building blocks in the region where they comply with local telecom standards. 3 Depending on your requirements a combination of the below units can be used in order to optimize the configuration in terms of functionality and price. System Description A Battery connection unit* E AC terminal and/or distribution unit - Allows connection to up to 2 separate battery strings within the same unit - Battery circuit breaker sizes: up to 400 A - AC terminal with or without configurable circuit breakers for rectifier feed etc B - Can be combined with transient protection and service outlets B DC distribution unit - Uses standard distribution circuit breaker types A - DIN-rail mounted terminals, breakers - 20 circuit breaker positions - 24 circuit breaker positions - Configurable distribution circuit breakers sizes: 3 to 150 A - Configurable number of circuit breakers used for main and priority load D C H Batteries E - 1x590 Ah – 615 Ah - Other Distribution Options. C Controllers - SCU = Standard Control Unit for DC power system monitoring (see page 6) - ACU = Advanced Control Unit for extended site monitoring H - Hot swappable - Height: 2 U, width: 2 U D Rectifier - Very compact high performance switch-mode rectifier with sinusoidal input current for low total harmonic distortion - Capacity: 3,200 W max power (R48-3200) - Wide AC input voltage range: 85 to 290 V AC -Efficiency: 92% -Temperature range: -40°C to +75°C -Power density: 990 W/dm3 or 16,2 W/inch3 - Height: 3 U, width: 2 U. * Not featured in illustration 4 Since the building blocks have been designed and verified according to both global and regional telecom standards and norms the new system configuration immediately complies with the regional telecom standards and norms. The ACTURA® 4855 uses the same building blocks for a wide power range; 3-40 kW. This enables you to save time and money - through more efficient purchasing, logistics set-up, spare parts management, and maintenance service routines. 40 kW 5 Monitoring – For Cost and Time Effective Operation and Maintenance Monitoring The smart controllers and supervision modules, used by ACTURA® 4855, were designed and developed for global use to monitor and control DC power system and telecom site equipment. The two global controllers with different monitoring functionality are called SCU and ACU. The SCU provides detailed information about the DC power systems functions and alarms by means of a graphical Display on site, or through a web browser. The ACU can, together with different supervision modules, collect and present detailed information and alarms related to AC mains, diesel gensets, battery backup, fans, fire detection systems, doors, and other auxiliary equipment by means of digital/analog inputs/outputs and relays. The controllers are hot swappable, and permits you to easily upgrade the Monitoring functionality when needed. The units can be inserted either in the rectifier rack or in the Multi Function Units. 6 ACU SCU ABBREVIATIONS PSTN Public Switched Telephony Network, a ordinary telephone line EXMG EnergyMasterTM exchange Manager, Windows based software for monitoring of Emerson Network Power DC equipment.
