County Pay Grade: 73
Salary Range:
$40,228-66,212
(In the event we are unable to recruit a qualified SWS III a lesser qualified applicant may be hired
in a work-against status at a lower rate of pay)

Job Description:
This position oversees a Child Protective Services Unit composed of seven social work positions.
Responsibilities include supervision and consultation to Child Welfare Social Workers; assuring quality,
accuracy, and timeliness of service provision and case management. The supervisor assigns cases to
appropriate workers, reviews cases for program compliance and quality of service, and monitors case
loads. Supervisor must be able to counsel and discipline employees in this unit as well as complete
annual performance evaluations; and participates in interviews for positions supervised and makes
recommendations to higher level management on hiring decisions. Supervisor conducts weekly staff
meetings and is responsible for overseeing case plans for all cases. Work in this area involves a
thorough understanding of SW assessment techniques, treatment approaches, family system dynamics
and intervention, all of which may be supportive or crisis in nature. The worker in this position will
need to use considerable judgment in determining client’s safety and risk factors. Supervisor is on call
on a five week rotational basis in order to provide direct supervision and consultation to social workers
performing on call duties after office hours. Supervisor promotes coordination and cooperation between
our agency and other agencies, local officials, community and regional officials. Also, work involves a
considerable knowledge of legal and administrative aspects of state mandated programs.
Minimum Training and Experience:
 Master’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and two years
of directly related experience; or
 Bachelor’s degree in social work from an appropriately accredited institution and three
years of directly related experience; or
 Master’s degree in a human services field from an appropriately accredited institution and
three years of directly related experience; or
 Bachelor’s degree in a human services field (including at least 15 semester hours in
courses related to social work or counseling) from an appropriately accredited institution
and four years of directly related experience;
 Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five years of directly
related experience; or
 An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Requirements:
 A valid Driver’s License
 Sound knowledge of NC statutes and policy related to child welfare
 Outstanding leadership skills, with the ability to model and teach critical skills to, coach,
and motivate staff
 Strong critical thinking and assessment skills
 Excellent time management and organizational skills
