General Updates:
1) Last Senate Meeting!
2) Minutes from last Senate meeting were approved.
3) Introduced next year’s members (Billy- Advocacy and Outreach, Emily- Director of
Programming, Kelly-Treasurer).
4) Orientation- August 29th. Requesting volunteers, please email Tara if you’d like to
volunteer. You get food, tshirt, and giftcard for volunteering.
5) Elizabeth is working with BC dining services to make the switch to only using cage-free
eggs. Every other school in the Boston area has gone cage-free. BC currently has
hundreds of undergrad signatures, and needs graduate student support. Senators can sign
the petition as individuals but not on behalf of their student collective. There will be an
email follow-up. There is a Facebook page for this and an op-ed piece that Elizabeth will
send out to senators.
Darrell: Student Surveys are in the works to gather basic data about graduate students. A list of
survey questions have been submitted for approval but have not heard back yet. Once this gets
approved, it will be sent to the senators to be forwarded on to each respective student collective.
There will be an incentive for filling out the survey (raffle where several students win). Darrell
is hoping to do a bigger, broader survey next year; the last time a comprehensive survey was
done was 2008.
Programming updates (Heather):
1) Grad Ball is this Saturday. Some people were able to do ticket exchanges and get off the
waitlist.
2) DeStress Week. Lineup: Massages & Scout the dog next Tuesday, Zumba and Biscuit the
guinea pig on Wednesday, BBQ on Thursday, Massages on Friday.
Director of Finance updates:
1) P-cards no longer work (turned off on April 24th).
2) All reimbursements have to be in by Friday, May 3rd. Check requests are also due this
date. Everything is processed through the Student Services Center, hence the deadline,
but can be discussed at a later date.
Senator Updates:
A&S- Had two town hall meetings this semester, and will have elections in the fall. A&S does
not currently have a constitution and that’s something that’s being worked on right now.
GEA- Liz is the incoming president! End of year celebration tonight.
CSOM- Two students from CSOM were recently injured in the bombings. CSOM thanks
everyone for the help with the banners that were created. There have been a lot of fundraising
events and support from BC in general. There are some graduate events coming up. They have
elected their next GMA president, Chevonne. It was asked if there were any fundraising events
coming up that would be appropriate for other graduate students to attend as well: there is a
softball tournament tomorrow starting at 10am near Cleveland Circle. In the GSL Sunday
newsletter, there will be a blurb about Liza and Brittany with links to their fundraising pages.
CSON- Still in the process of doing voting for new leadership, early May should start the
transition process. There is a celebratory graduation event coming up.
GSSW- End of the year party tonight at LIR. Executive Coordinator for next year is Holly Fipps.
STM- Hope Griffin and Kelly are new representatives. There is Escaton Week the week between
finals and graduation: There are a bunch of events for this, including a day of service and
scavenger hunt.
GPA- Emily is the new President of GPA for next year. There will be an after-party for Grad
Ball tomorrow night at Tommy Doyle’s. Two inaugural events coming up: Lavender Graduation
on May 3rd and Rainbow Alliance will be marching in the Pride parade on June 8th. Follow up
email will be sent.
General Announcements/Final Updates:
1) Graduate Student Organization forms and Anti-Hazing forms need to be filled out and
submitted by May 31st.
2) Student Conferences over the summer can still be reimbursed. There is a June funding
cycle.
3) BC has hired a new vice president of student affairs last week- Barbara Jones.
Congratulations to everyone who is graduating and thank you for a wonderful year!
