SMARTHINKING ONLINE WRITING TUTORING SERVICE What is it? The University of South Alabama offers SMARTHINKING, an online tutoring service, to offer tutoring in writing for students enrolled in online courses. Writing tutors are available to critique essays; assist with grammar and mechanics; assist with pre‐writing; and help with research strategies and proper documentation. Over 90% of writing tutors hold a masters or doctorate in their writing intensive discipline. Many are current or former college instructors. All writing tutors are experienced in writing. Where is it? Students can access SMARTHINKING by first logging on to the USA online page. Click on the Writing Tutor link located at the left‐hand top of the page. Students enrolled in online courses have access. How It Works Students submit essays or other written work for review at the SMARTHINKING Online Writing Lab. Students may also submit a series of drafts based on feedback provided by writing tutors. Although different tutors respond when the student logs on at separate times, previous drafts and notes of the student’s work are available for subsequent tutors. Ask that your tutor have expertise in APA‐style.
