Our 5:30 pm Contemporary Ensemble will continue throughout the summer. Our ensemble members
contribute time and talent to enrich our liturgies week after week, for which we are most grateful.
Anyone interested in more information about our ensembles can go to our webpage or contact Michael
Burgo at burgo@bc.edu.
ARCHDIOCESAN CHOIR SCHOOL
This Sunday, June 30, the Director of the Choir at the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School will be visiting
us after the 10am Family Mass to provide information to boys who might be interested in attending the
school. Attached to St. Paul Parish in Cambridge, the Choir School is the only Roman Catholic Boys
Choir School in the United States. Choir Schools are an intrinsic part of the history of Church Music from
the 7th century onwards, and the Boston Archdiocesan Choir School has formed and educated boys in
grades four through eight since 1963. For more information, please contact John Robinson at
jrobinson@choirschool.net.

MAKING ORDINARY TIME EXTRAORDINARY
Dear Parishioners,
Summer is a blessed season—a period of relaxation and slowing down, and an especially fruitful time to
enrich prayer life. The liturgical calendar also transitions from Pentecost into Ordinary time. At Pentecost
we are showered with the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit—Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel (right
judgment), Knowledge, Fortitude (courage), Piety (reverence), and Fear of the Lord (wonder and
awe). As you journey through summer, the Spiritual Life Commission would like to offer you a simple
prayer “exercise” that we hope might make this Ordinary time extraordinary.
Inspired by the Spirit’s grace, we invite you to consider how these seven wonderful gifts are at work in
your life by reflecting on a series of Ignatian Examen-style questions, based on the individual gifts. We
will be providing the exercises in the Bulletin every other week as well as on the parish website.
To deepen the experience, consider connecting with a spiritual “companion” or forming a small group
with whom to share the movements of the Spirit as summer progresses. Imagine yourselves as disciples
in Luke’s Emmaus gospel (Luke 24:13-35), journeying together, reflecting on the mystery of the
Resurrection and how the various gifts of Christ’s Spirit solidify our oneness in Him.
Without a doubt, you are bound to meet Jesus on the way!
Blessings,
The Spiritual Life Commission
COUNSEL
THE GIFT I SEEK:
I pray for Counsel, or Right Judgment, which helps me discern as if by instinct what must be done in
every circumstance, whether it concerns my conduct or that of others. May the Holy Spirit direct me
toward the means of working through the challenging issues in my life, my family, and my community
and discovering solutions that heal the wounds of division.
REFLECTION:
•
•
•
•
Do I recognize the Holy Spirit as the supreme “spiritual director” in my life?
In what ways do I resist the guidance of the Spirit toward the surest path of pleasing God?
How can I more effectively enlist the Counsel of the Holy Spirit in both the important and trivial
matters of my life?
What imprudent actions or habits of mine might lead me toward discerning greater spiritual
maturity and judgment?
A PRAYER TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
O King of glory, send us the promised of the Father, the Spirit of Truth.
May the Counselor who proceeds from you enlighten us and infuse
all truth into us, as you have promised.
O Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, grant that by faith, Christ may dwell
in our hearts so that, rooted in charity, we may acknowledge the love of
Christ that surpasses all knowledge. Through the same Christ our Lord.
Amen.

SEGUIRTE SEÑOR, CON TODA MI LIBERTAD
Queridos Parroquianos,
y mi poseer;
Vos me lo diste;
a Vos, Señor, lo torno;
todo es vuestro,
disponed a toda vuestra voluntad;
dadme vuestro amor y gracia,
que esto me basta. Amén
Sinceramente,
Padre Luis Miguel García Jiménez, S.J.
