Book Discussion
Are you looking for summer reading and greater parish participation? We’re here to help on both counts. May we suggest that
you read the book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande this summer
and attend the discussion which will take place on September 13
at 11:15 in the parish office. In this book Gawande looks at the
problems of aging and the inevitability of death. He points out
how common it is for modern medicine to fail the people it is
supposed to be helping (i.e., in striving to give patients health
and survival, their well-being can be neglected). As the end of life
approaches, Gawande insists that we look at the “Dying Role,”
which he describes as patients’ ability to “share memories, pass
on wisdom and keepsakes, settle relationships, establish legacies
and make peace with their God.” Please join us in September for
discussion of this thoughtful, well-written book.
Saint Ignatius Pledge Program Saint Ignatius strives to create a model of Church where
the gifts of all our parishioners are valued and celebrated.
We are committed to issues of social justice and assist
many non-profit organizations in the Boston area. Our
many ministries depend on parishioner support.
Running the parish and all of its programs costs $1.5
million a year, 95% of which is covered through contributions from our parishioners. Our goal is to have all of our
parishioners consider making a pledge, however big or
small, in order to help keep these programs alive.
By making automatic, recurring donations via credit
cards, automatic bank withdrawals, or by requesting parish envelopes, parishioners make possible the planning of
an appropriate operating budget and help us to forecast
income for the upcoming year. By joining the pledge program, parishioners can maintain their planned level of
support throughout the year.
How much should one give? This is up to each individual, but traditional guidelines suggest devoting one hour’s
pay each week, or 2.5% of your income. Please consider
the amount you are able to contribute to Saint Ignatius
Parish and indicate this amount on the pledge form. Here
are the following options for participating in the annual
pledge:
Complete a pledge card and put it in the collection
basket or mail it to the Parish Office. Pledge cards can be
found at the back of the church or are available by calling
the Parish Office at 617-552-6102.
Little Rock Bible Group
“The Remnant Group” will begin their weekly meetings on
Wednesday, July 22th in the Old Choir Room, 7:15 pm – 8:30
pm. A video on the up-coming Sunday readings is shown and is
followed with a group discussion of questions and answers pertaining to the readings. It’s a great way to prepare for the Sunday
readings! Newcomers are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
If you have questions, please call John Dafarra at 781-899-9540.
Family Mass and Faith Formation News Registration for the 2015-16 Faith Formation Program will begin
soon. We have been working on creating a new online registration process that will help make the process much quicker and
smoother for everyone. We are adding an option to make the
Faith Formation donation using either a credit or debit card. As
soon as that piece is ready to go, we will begin registrations. If
you were enrolled in our program last year, we have reserved a
spot for your family this year. If you would like to enroll in our
Faith Formation Program for the first time, please contact Susan
Stuart at 617-552-6105 or langinst@bc.edu.

Graduate Student Seeking Room My name is Laura, and I will be a graduate student at the B.C.
School of Theology and Ministry this fall. I live with my husband
and daughters in beautiful Portland, Maine. Since I will be
commuting by bus down to Boston once a week for classes, clustering my courses to two consecutive days, I am looking for a
hospitable family or individual that would be willing to open
their home to me one night a week during the academic year. If
you have a heart for hospitality, or if you don’t mind sharing
your space once a week, and you have room in your home—
either a guest room or family room with a couch would do—I
would be happy to tell you more about myself and answer any
questions. Tel. 207-370-9879, ltennenh@gmail.com

July 12 – Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Jesus sent out the twelve, two by two. We are sent out too, to
speak His name and tell of His love for each of us. Paul reminds
us that we have been chosen – and not only chosen, but given
every spiritual blessing. And, there’s more! Through Baptism
and Confirmation we have been sealed with the promised Holy
Spirit. We have all the tools and graces required to tell others
about Jesus. Be open to the Spirit. Pray for courage.
July 19 – Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time We are a “tuned in” people. Connected to the world 24/7. The
blessing of being able to keep in touch with friends and family,
and keep up with “breaking news” has its drawbacks. In this environment it can be hard to hear God’s voice. Today’s reading
has the perfect antidote. Jesus said to the apostles, “Come away
by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” Not everyone
can go away on retreat, but most of us can carve out some time,
even just a few minutes in the day, to sit with the Lord. If there is
an Adoration chapel nearby, stop in. Sit and rest in the love of
God!

Librarse del peso en las alas.
Dejar atrás inercia, conveniencias, argumentos que siempre te dejan en tierra.
Borrarse de la lista de los indiferentes y apuntarse a la de los entusiasmados por tu proyecto, por tu reino, por ti.
