ChristmasReflections–BostonLiturgicalDanceEnsemble
Dear Parishioners,
As you know, this is my final year as pastor and this means it’s
the final year for Christmas Reflections at Boston College. If you
are new to the parish, you may not know that I have been presenting Christmas Choreography for 35 years! After 28 years of
A Dancers’ Christmas and 7 years of Christmas Reflections, I’ll
be closing the curtain on this wonderful holiday tradition. I’m
told that there are some parishioners who have never seen one of
these productions! So if you’ve been before or never been, I’d
urge you to see this year’s final performance. We have a gifted
corps of professional dancers, children and the O’Dwyer School
of Irish Dancing. Featured guest artists are Steven Cornwall from
Jamaica and Khiara Bridges, who also happens to be a Professor
of Law at Boston University. Christmas Reflections is such a joyful celebration of the season that I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. You
may even see me on stage dancing!
Performances take place in the BC Robsham Theater, diagonally
across from the Parish. The dates are December 18th, 7:30pm;
19th, 3:00pm; 20th, 3:00pm. Tickets can be purchased on line at
www.bc.edu/offices/robsham/tickets.html or phone 617-5524800. Reserved seating is $20. Groups of 10 are $15 per person.
In addition to the performance, there will be a wonderful Gala O
COME ALL YE FAITHFUL on Saturday December 19th following
the 3PM performance. This wine and gourmet food tasting is
fund-raiser for the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble and will
take place at the Jesuit Residence, 130 Beacon St. Tickets are
$100 per person and include admission to Christmas Reflections. Checks should be made payable to BLDE.
I hope you can attend one of the final performances and even the
gala!
Sincerely,
Fr. Bob

Advent3,Scripture
The LORD, your God, is in your midst,
a mighty savior;
he will rejoice over you with gladness,
and renew you in his love,
he will sing joyfully because of you,
as one sings at festivals.
Reflection
The Third Sunday of Advent is an invitation to know how much
we are loved by God. We are known and loved as we are. God
does not just “overlook” our faults but “looks us over” and delights in us even with our imperfections.
TheLifeofIgnatius
During his convalescence, Ignatius was overwhelmed by the
mercy of God who could accept him and love him as he was. He
received great joy in thinking of dedicating his life to God. He
would have far to go before he really understood how much God
loved him as he was but this was a beginning.
QuestionsforReflection
How easy or difficult is it for you to believe that you are completely loved and embraced by God, even with your faults and
failings? Do you really believe that God delights in you? Can you
imagine God singing and dancing because of you?
FortheGreaterGlory
As you reflect on this question, you are invited to view For The
Greater Glory, the dance/theater piece on the Spiritual Exercises, created by Fr. Bob. Continue to view For the Greater Glory
from the story of the prodigal through the end of the first week.

El Señor, tu Dios, tu poderoso salvador,
está en medio de ti.
Él se goza y se complace en ti;

AdventLiturgy
When the Liturgy Commission came together to pray about our
communal celebrations during the Advent season, we took note
of the many expressions of Joy that are in the scriptures beginning with the 2nd Sunday. Since Pope Francis has called for a
year of Mercy which began on December 8th, we decided that
Joy and Mercy would be the themes for this Advent. Beginning
December 5th, you received a Mercy Card (Dec.5/6). This weekend, you will receive a Joy Card (Dec.12/13). You will be invited
to place the card in the second passing of the basket. In doing so
you are making the promise to perform an act of mercy or an act
of joy for someone during the week. Next Sunday, you can
choose either card. We hope that this will make your Advent
even more meaningful.
SeekingHousingforWestminsterChoir
The world-renowned Westminster Choir of Princeton, New Jersey will be performing at St. Ignatius on January 8, 2016. The
varied program will be sung by the 40 voice touring choir, as
part of their winter tour. You will not want to miss it!
We are providing housing for the 44 members of the choir on
the night of January 7, 2016 (Thursday). If you are able and interested in hosting any of the students, or for more information,
please contact Timothy Zimmerman zimmerta@bc.edu, 617552-6114. Thank you, in advance, for your generous hospitality.

Everyone is invited to join us in the Friary Room following the
10AM liturgies on Sunday, December 20th, for a bake sale and

Mercy] through Project Bread's annual Holiday Spoons Project.
Come join them and buy some baked goods and a Holiday
Spoon. Plus, all charitable contributions to Project Bread will be
doubled by Jordan's Furniture. Please join us!
ChristmasEveFamilyMassLiturgyandPageant
It's time to sign up for our annual Christmas Eve Family Mass
Liturgy and Pageant! We are looking for performers for our pageant to include: Mary, Stars, Angels, Shepherds, Sheep, and
Wise Men. We also need a speaker for the voice of the Angel and
several lectors. Parents can help by serving as Eucharistic Ministers, Gift Bearers, and Pageant helpers. Many hands are needed
for this joyous liturgy! Please be in touch with Susan at

! The "Praying Advent" website offers many helpful resources
for individuals and families who want some help to begin the
season of Advent. In common sense language, the site helps us
pray through Advent as we may never have done before. There
is a Daily Prayer for each day of Advent, based on the Collects of
the New Roman Missal. Just Google "Praying Advent" to find
the site on the Creighton University online ministries web site.
! Check out www.pray-as-you-go.org or 3-minute-retreats-dailyonline-prayer.htm (tambien en espanol: 3 minutos de retiro),
! For the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Dec 13): Light two purple
candles and the rose colored candle on your Advent wreath (use
prayer guides for Advent wreath)
! The Church begins Year C. The Gospel readings come mostly
from Luke, with John providing a number of Gospel readings
throughout the year. We have a three-year cycle of Sunday
Scripture readings at Mass identified by the letters A,B, and
C. Each Sunday, the Church proclaims 3 readings, generally one
each from the Old Testament, New Testament and Gospels. A
psalm is also assuaged to each Mass as a response to the first
reading.

St.IgnatiusPledgeProgram
Thank you to the many members of the parish who have responded to the pledge letter from Father Bob, either by signing
up or giving us changes in your information.
For those who haven’t yet had a chance to respond, you can still
send in the card or can call Kyle Crosby at 617-552-6119. We are
best able to plan for and use the resources you’ve entrusted to us,
through the Annual Support Program. The more people participate, the better we can plan and budget. As always, we are so
grateful for your support.
TheJubileeYearofMercyandtheDoorofMercy
The Holy Year of Mercy began on the
Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception,
December 8, 2015, and will close on November 20, 2016, the Solemnity of Our
Lord Jesus Christ King of the Universe.
This Jubilee year is extraordinary in many
ways. Unlike the Jubilees that take place
every twenty-five or fifty years, or the
Great Jubilee Year 2000, Pope Francis has
proclaimed a Jubilee based on a theme –
God’s Mercy. He said that this Holy Year
of Mercy is a journey, a “journey which begins with spiritual
conversion”. And we know that our conversion is always a response to God’s grace, his loving invitation to follow Him more
closely and more faithfully. This Holy Year of Mercy is an invitation to us from God, who is mercy. It is an invitation for us to be
“Merciful like the Father”, and to practice the spiritual and corporal works of mercy.
During the Holy Year of Mercy doors are to be opened in the
Cathedrals of the world, doors of mercy. On December 8, the
first Holy Door will be opened by Pope Francis at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. On the following Sunday, December 13, doors of
mercy will be opened at Cathedrals throughout the world, including our own Cathedral of the Holy Cross, during the
11:30a.m. Mass. This Door of Mercy will be open throughout
the Holy Year of Mercy for pilgrims to enter the Cathedral,
which is a house of mercy. God dwells here in His Sacraments
and in His Word. He can be found in His Body, the Church,
which exists to glorify Him and to lead others to a merciful encounter with God.
You may be asking, “What is a Door of Mercy for?” Each day we
pass through many doors: in our homes, our automobiles, our
places of work and recreation. Most of the time we are simply
passing through, in and out, without even thinking about the
door. A Holy Door is different. Rather than just simply passing
through this door, it exists to help us “pass-over”, to experience
the grace of conversion, a significant change in the direction of
our lives.
During this Holy Year of Mercy, God invites us not simply to
pass through a door, but to “pass-over” from sin to mercy, from
darkness to light, from isolation to communion with God and
His Church. When we “pass-over” this threshold, we encounter
Christ who is the merciful face of the Father. Just as when we
turn the door knob in order to enter the door of a house or a
room, when we enter the Holy Door it is Christ’s hand that leads
us. It is his voice we hear, inviting us to be Merciful like the Father.

Michelle’sNewCD
Michelle Abadia, one of our song leaders at St. Ignatius, has released a cd entitled: "Melodies From The Subway" featuring
works by Gershwin, Sondheim, Porter, Berlin, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and some soft pop. The cd also features Steven Sussman at the piano. Steve plays regularly for our 5:30 liturgies. His
musically sensitive and very expert playing truly enhanced this
recording.
