Susan G. Komen®, Digital Communications Intern Background: Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen, she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982 that promise became Susan G. Komen® and launched the global breast cancer movement. Today, Komen is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Locally, Komen North Central Alabama has been a leader in the local fight against breast cancer for the past 20 years putting the promise Nancy made to Suzy - to save lives and end breast cancer forever - into action each day in Alabama. Because of our dedicated supporters and through events like the Race for the Cure, held every October in Birmingham, together we have been able to provide more than $5 million for local community breast cancer programs and services throughout north central Alabama and over $2 million for cutting-edge breast cancer research. Additionally, local researchers in Alabama have received more than $15 million from the Komen National Research Program. Description/Requirements: Excellent communication, customer service and interpersonal skills Strong time-management, organizational and research skills Passionate about social media Have strong computer skills, including strong experience in Microsoft Offices (i.e. Word, Excel) Web and/or graphic design experience preferred Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in a communications or related program of study, or be a graduate of a college or university with a degree in communications or related field Position will require use of a personal computer Candidate may be subject to a criminal background check. Responsibilities: The Digital Communications Intern will assist the Affiliate with social media including enewsletter campaigns, Facebook, Twitter, website and other digital media. Primary Responsibilities: Clarify objectives and track progress of social media growth Follow social media calendar and update as necessary Research and report on new social media trends and services Write new content for Komen North Central Alabama Facebook, Twitter and other accounts to promote Komen’s programs and drive website traffic Work with staff on social media updates
