Social Worker I – Intake
SALARY RANGE: SW I Grade 25 $30,731.00

Description of Work:
To assess and identify needs of all services delivery intake. This position is responsible for CPS and APS
intake, case preparation, ID and CPS checks, and forwarding to appropriate departmental social workers for
investigation. This position will also provide support to all Social Workers as well as serve as back up for the
Medicaid Transportation Coordinator as needed.
Social Worker I in this position serves families, children, and adults of all ages and financial backgrounds. This
worker must deal with all citizens which can include people who are mentally ill; beligerant or under the
influence of drugs /alcohol.
Duties are assigned to this Social Worker I on the basis of speciality, with all clients being residents of Macon
County. However, this Social Worker I must have knowledge of all services in the event any other social
worker is unavailable. Referrals to this social worker may be received from the community, schools,
professionals, other agencies, or within the department.
Minimum Education and Experience for Social Worker I:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working knowledge of basic social work principles, techniques, and practices
and their application to specific casework, group work, and community problems. Knowledge of governmental
and private organizations and resources in the community. Some knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic
problems and their treatment. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
administrative supervisors, with members of case load and their families, and with care providers and various
community organizations. Ability to express ideals clearly and concisely. Ability to plan and execute work.
Minimum Training and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an
appropriately accredited institution; Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year
of directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
First preference will be given to applicants who have completed the North Carolina Child Welfare PreService Training Curriculum or BSW with In-Service training.
A TRANSCRIPT OF THE HIGHEST DEGREE IS REQUIRED.
