Moving Ahead with ePortfolios (MAeP)
DATA ANALYSIS
During this project students were asked to do four things:
1. Listen to a description of the project, the rubric, and the upcoming assignment
2. Write a reflection based on the assignment’s description (called the PRE)
3. Actually do the assignment
4. Write a second reflection after completing the assignment (called the POST)
Students were also given a copy of the rubric that would be used to score the PRE & POST reflections
Teachers were asked to use the AACU Integrative Learning Value Rubric to measure how well students did.
Semester 2 instructors used both Row one of the rubric, which asks students to connect to their prior
experience, and Row two, which asks students to connect to their disciplinary knowledge.
The following is a graphical view of the data collected during the Spring 2012 rubric scoring workshop. The first
two graphs are from Cohort I, and show A) a small increase in students’ “Connection to Experience”, and B) a
larger increase in students’ “Connection to Discipline”.

As MAeP continued, we added a second cohort of faculty participants. The following represents Cohort II’s first
semester where we again implemented row 1 of the AACU Integrative Learning Value Rubric to measure
students’ “Connection to Experience”. This time our assignment-modification process was much more mature
and our instructions to faculty became clearer – i.e. we improved the MAeP experience. The following results
indicate a much broader change between student PRE & POST reflections.
