MCDOWELL COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT CLASSIFICATION TITLE: COMPUTER SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR I JOB LOCATION: ADMINISTRATION Position Responsibilities This position is responsible for the installation, troubleshooting, inventory, and user access to various computer systems which includes a LANs system, mainframes, terminals, printers and personal computers varying in make and models. This position works with other department staff in performing and maintaining the daily operations of the computer systems in either the mainframe or microcomputer environment. This position is also the Security Control Officer for the State Computer System accessed in Raleigh Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of mid-range and mainframe computer systems and their operating systems and capabilities, personal computers, terminals and peripherals. Knowledge of personal computer modem equipment and mainframe system modems and configurations, emulation devices and software, control units, multiplexers, types of cabling available, and other communication equipment. Knowledge of manufacturer’s software capabilities. Software includes DOS, Windows, and Microsoft products such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, and networking software. Knowledge of Internet connectivity software and TCP/IP. Knowledge of programming languages used in microcomputer applications and of PC/mainframe links that will allow for the modification or creation of programs and systems to efficiently and effectively meet the needs of the users. Ability to troubleshoot operational problems and to recommend software and hardware solutions and applications. Ability to provide demonstrations and training sessions which increases the participant’s knowledge and ability to use PC software and hardware. Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and to prepare clear and concise instructions and summaries of materials. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, and the general public. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from high school and two years of experience in the administration of a computer system similar to the one to be supported; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited universities. COMPUTER PROFICIENCY IS REQUIRED. BI-LINGUAL ABILITY (ENGLISH/SPANISH) IS DESIRABLE.
