MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work; or a Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and completion of the Child Welfare Collaborative (Child Welfare positions only);Bachelor’s Degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and one year directly related experience; Master’s degree in a human services field and one year of directly related experience; Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and three years of directly related experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices, and their application to complex casework, group work, and community problems. Considerable knowledge of a wide range of medical, behavioral, and/or psychosocial problems and their treatment theory. Considerable knowledge of family and group dynamics and a range of intervention techniques, governmental and private organizations, and resources in the community, laws, regulations, and policies which govern the program; General knowledge of the methods and principles of casework supervision and training. In certain settings, considerable knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment as they relate to decisions regarding clinical interventions and appropriate therapies based on medical or psychological diagnosis. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and in applying techniques or assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of client’s problems. Ability to supervise, train, or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns in the program. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with members of caseload and their families, as well as civic, legal, medical, social, and religious organizations. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Worker must complete a required 72-hours minimum of Pre-Service Training before direct client contact and 39 additional hours within the first year of employment. LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS: Valid NC Driver’s License DESCRIPTION OF WORK: This position provides social work services in the areas of child protective services, custody and adoption, and foster care work, which involves the assessment of individual and family dynamics and needs, serving as an expert witness at court hearings, crisis intervention and counseling. Day to day responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: foster care home recruitment, placement, supervision, and monitoring. The worker will be required to review each child in foster care with the court every six months or as needed. The worker will also provide case management services, monitor placements, organize and preside at agency review team meetings, prepare court reports, prepare home studies, make home evaluations for the safety of children; effectively Bertie County is an Equal Opportunity Employer (SW-III, con’t) communicate verbally and in writing with schools and other agencies regarding the child and family’s needs; and maintain the foster care and adoption caseload. Worker in this position often works outside of the normal workday hours to accommodate the schedules of the families (which includes the children, biological parents, guardians, foster parents, etc). The worker will also be responsible for licensing foster homes in the county and monitoring these homes. Worker in this position will serve on CALL DUTY nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled, to receive referrals/reports of protective services for children after regular working hours. Responsibilities also include Child Protective Service investigations and/or treatment services. This position requires precise comprehension and implementation of policy guidelines. Additionally, documentation and verbal accounts of cases must be extremely accurate. Worker will also provide assistance in case of disaster, either natural or man-made, to serve the citizens of Bertie County.
