MACON COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY POSITION: Universal Social Services Income Maintenance Caseworker I w/work against UIMC II (Temporary Full-time) ANNOUNCEMENT DATE: 8/13/2013 CLOSING DATE: until filled SALARY RANGE: Grade 23 IMC I $27,874.00 Grade 25 IMC II $ 30,731.00 (12 months as UIMC I) RESPONSIBILITIES: An UIMC II in this position does initial intake and processes applications in NC FAST. The UIMC II conducts interviews, assesses need, explains all applicable programs, explains in depth all requirements, rights and responsibilities of both client and agency, make proper referrals, and respond to any unusual emotional or physical state of the client in an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust. The employee must be able to adapt to change and be able to continue daily work as complex and new regulations are implemented. The IMC II must offer assistance in obtaining the information requested from the client. Confidentiality of case information must be maintained. Satisfactory work during period of pressure and heavy workload maintaining balance and self-control is a requirement, and employee must independently produce satisfactory work during those periods. Worker must be a team player, and have excellent communication skills. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Considerable knowledge of the program/area(s) of assignment. General knowledge of all agency and community programs and services which could affect the client/applicant. Good mathematical reasoning and computational skills. Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets rules, regulations and procedures. Ability to perform caseworker functions within structured time frames. Exemplified computer proficiency is a must to this UIMC II role. The Universal IMC II must have good interviewing skills and ability to communicate effectively and develop a satisfactory relationship with people of all socioeconomic backgrounds, while at the same time multi-tasking (i.e. comprehending, interpreting, and applying complex rules and regulations, and practical judgment including ability to read and interpret policy, job aides, and change notices for competency.) MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: We will accept applications for Income Maintenance Caseworker I with the following qualifications: Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in: ITS Technology Paralegal Technology Business Administration Secretarial Science or; Graduation from high school with three years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included: Negotiating Interviewing Explaining information Gathering and compiling data Analysis of data Performance of mathematical or legal tasks One year of experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker is required for level II all others will be hired at level I with a corresponding salary grade. Preferred qualifications are training and knowledge working with NC FAST. SELECTION PROCEDURES: Structured interview and skills test will be administered. Applicants admitted to the interview will be given a written test for simulated tasks to perform typical to those of the Social Services Income Maintenance Caseworker and a computer performance test.
