Experts’ View
Museums of fine art are institutions equipped with an enormous
amount of historical data. Due to the great potential for information-sharing and exploration, it is reasonable to argue that fine art museums should facilitate exciting, memorable experiences for visitors.
Traditional fine art museums often lack interactive stimuli or user-friendly environments. Exhibits are rarely meant to serve audiences
with varying levels of interest or knowledge.
Art Historian
The Philadelphia Museum of Art, one of the largest museums in America,
ranks the low in attendance and has a reputation of being highly conservative. The fact that many traditional fine art museums share in this status is
simply not good; there is an obvious disconnect between visitors and museum
content that must be addressed.

Three rooms at the Philadelphia Museum of Art were chosen for targeted observations of 3-5 visitors. The specific locations
were chosen for the unique experiences that they provide:

fine art museums,

Major issues involve getting to
art and being with art. There is a
disconnect between viewers and
context. How can design encourage and empower visitors to be
active, mentally agile seekers?

The solution, Keepsake, is a system that celebrates and aids the physical process of viewing art while
integrating digital tools for more in-depth discovery. A physical guide helps users to find their way
while a digital platform enables visitors to capture art beyond museum walls.
