AA/EOE Work First Employment Services Social Worker The primary purpose of the Work First Social Worker is to motivate Work First Family Assistance (WFFA) recipients to improve the quality of their lives by achieving new levels of independence from public assistance through education, training and employment. The Social Worker evaluates, assesses, and provides supportive services, counseling and case management services to applicants who are referred through the local and state referral system. Work involves in-depth assessments of family dynamics and needs assessments and referral of clients and/or families with major medical/emotional or mental illnesses. The Work First Employment Services Social Worker will provide services as outlined by the Work First Employment Services Program. Emphasis is placed on job preparation, skill’s training and work experience. When a client becomes “job ready”, the Social Worker will provide services to enable the client to improve employment opportunities. The Social Worker will provide counseling and needed social services to remove barriers to employment and independence and enable self-sufficiency. The Work First Employment Services Social Worker determines/re-determines applicant/client eligibility for Work First Family Assistance which involves obtaining all pertinent data concerning the client’s family composition, financial, employment and health status. RECRUITMENT STANDARDS: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques, and practices and their application to individual casework group work and community problems. Knowledge of the psychosocial, socioeconomic and behavioral problems and their treatment. Knowledge of governmental and private organizations and community resources. Knowledge of laws, regulations and policies which govern the program. General knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and their treatment is required In certain programs or settings. Skill in establishing rapport with a client and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial behavioral and psychological aspects of client's problem. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrative superiors members of case load and their families, and with civics medical, social and religious organizations. Ability to train or instruct lower-level social workers, students, or interns. Ability to express Ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work. Minimum Training and Experiment Requirements: Bachelor's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work; Bachelor's degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and one year directly related experience; Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience. *Directly related experience is defined as human services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
