New Student Enrollment Planning
To provide a welcoming environment to new freshmen into the Freshman Academies, and
to conduct welcome and/or orientation programs geared to facilitate responsible and
engaged new students. Follow up maintained through the first two semesters through
Early Alert program, pre-registration workshops and other activities.
Core Activities and Performance
Core Activity
Key PI
Indicators
Oversee and coordinate the pre-enrollment
advisement and registration process for
incoming freshman.
Registration totals.
Meet the
College's
enrollment
goals.
Promote freshman registration as follows: (1) Data on credit totals not available. Need to identify at time of
15-credit/equated credit F/T enrollment; (2)
registration and compare at time of official withdrawal date.
registration into academy courses.
Academy-specific registrations: Fall 2011 - offerings for new
freshmen filled; Spring 2012 - several classes dropped due to low
enrollment resulting from decreased enrollment, CUNYFirst and
extremely limited registration cycle.
Per Strateic
Plan and
Academy
Assessment
Protocol.
Design and conduct freshmen orientations:
College 101/Technology Workshop and
FRESHMEN FIRST.
Fall 2011: thirty sessions of College 101 conducted with estimated
"show-rate" of 75% for newly registered freshmen (n=3900);
Spring 2012: only three sessions conducted with "show-rate" of
78% by those scheduled to attend. Estimated attendance at
FRESHMEN FIRST was 40% for spring and 55% for fall.
Per Strategic
Plan and
Academy
Assessment
Protocol:
numbers of
incoming
freshmen
with
CUNFIRST,
etc. prior to
first day of
class.
Conduct "Early Alert" project with first and
second-semester freshman.
"Early Alert" project for spring and fall produced minimal results.
Input by ST100 faculty (100% participation) allowed outreach to
those not in attendance. Input from other faculty too limited to be
beneficial.
Per Strategic
Plan and
Academy
Assessment
Protocol:
Early Alert
project
currently
under
examination.
Provide advisement and registration for
first-to-second semester freshmen.
Approximately 82% of Fall 2011 freshmen participated in
"Pre-registration" workshops and academy advisement sessions.
To date, over 75% of Spring 2012 have been advised and
registered. (NB: numbers are estimated due to identification of
freshmen in CUNYFirst.)

A total of 27 Freshmen Academy workshops/events were
conducted in the fall, and 25 activities in the spring.
