Safety & Security The Department of Public Safety is committted to providing a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors to Queensborough Community College of the City University of New York. The department maintains and promotes respect for the individual rights and dignity of all persons and continually attempts to instill public confidence by maintaining a high degree of professionalism, dedication and expertise in the delivery of the service it provides. Core Activities and Performance Core Activity Key PI Indicators To provide Public Safety coverage to the campus community answering various calls for service regarding criminal activities, fire safety, work orders, emergency situations, traffic and parking control functions, etc Serve all members of campus community to include students, faculty, staff and visitors. Responded to approximately 1700 calls for service, over 480 of which required the filing of written security incident reports. Issued over 250 parking violation summonses. Quantity and quality of service provided. Response to calls for medical assistance, accidents, elevator malfunctions, etc. Perform (red) emergency phone and lighting checks. Respond to approximately 300 calls for service of this nature. (Department members are trained in First aid/CPR and use of cardiac defibrillator). Checks performed on a continuous basis. Quantity and quality of service provided. Conduct fire/evacuation drills throughout the campus. Provide escorts and crime prevention presentations. Provide assistance, information and guidance to visitors on campus. Conducted 41 drills. Escorts and crime prevention presentations upon request. Provide assistance as necessary. Continuous. Special event security for functions at theaters, art gallery, gym, student union and other campus facilities. These functions are performed continuously on a daily basis. Over 300 events annually. Quantity and quality of service provided. Dispatchers answer calls for service and requests for information (also act as campus information center during off hours). Dispatchers monitor CCTV and applicable alarm systems. Functions related to designation as assigned shelter for OEM, Cardozo HS and PS 203 Approximately 1200 calls received weekly. The room is enclosed by windows on all sides. There is little wall space and providing a good field of view for CCTV monitors is challenging. The work center is old and clutered." Need still exists for space modifications to help ensure integrity of investigations and individual privacy. Personnel levels have remained stable over the past year. However, several members have been out on extended sick leave.
