INTERN FOR STUDENT ACTIVITIES OFFICE Student Activities Office The Intern for the Student Activities Office works on projects and events that build community and enhance the MIT experience for undergraduate and graduate students. The primary purpose of the Intern is to carry out the goals of the SAO in the following ways: 1. Work with staff and students to brand SAO, including events and programs as well as social media, website, and campus marketing 2. Assist in telling “SAO”’s story to students; collaborate with SAO and Division of Student Life communications staff to help tap into networks to better promote our programs. Assist in the development of a combined, unified, marketing plan where all programs, materials and presentations are given the same look to solidify our brand. 3. Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of events that provide support, build community, and/or foster leadership development 4. Develop assessment for programmatic efforts as well as research best practices 5. Interact with other departments and offices as needed Some potential activities for the Intern would include: serving as Assistant Advisor for Freshman Leadership Program in late August, LeaderShape On-Site Coordinator in mid-January, assisting with programs such as leadership retreats, Institute Awards, MIT’s Day of Play and Spring Concert. Supervisor: Assistant Directors of Student Activities All applicants must: Be a currently registered graduate student in good standing at an accredited institution Be able to commit to up to 10 hours of work every week Be able to work some evening and weekend hours, when necessary Applicants should have good communication and organizational skills, as well as be able to take initiative in new projects. Preferably applicants will have a desire to advise students and work in a team environment. An understanding of, or interest in, marketing and event planning is preferred. Duration and Compensation: The Intern position will begin as soon as possible for the entire academic year (mid-August – May). The Intern will be expected to work an average of 10 hours per week.
