MCPHS University Office of Residence Life Graduate Assistant 2016-2017 Dates of Employment: August 2016 – May, 2017. This is a 9 month position. The Graduate Assistant for Residence Life position is renewable for a second year based on performance. Education Required: Currently or will be pursuing a masters degree in higher education and/or student affairs administration, education, counseling or related field concurrently while in the position. Experience Desired: Undergraduate student leadership, programming, student government, orientation, residence life, community service, or related experiences. Description of Position/Duties: Assists the Assistant Dean for Residential Living & Learning and Area Coordinators with daily operations, educational programming, community development, staff training, and assessment and evaluation regarding MCPHS University Living Learning Communities. Job Status/Compensation: Part Time, 20 Hours/Week, Stipend: $8,000 live-in position and is provided with campus housing. A meal plan is provided during the fall & spring semesters. General Responsibilities: Assists with the operations of University sponsored housing which houses MCPHS University students, ensuring an environment that is conducive to student development and academic success. Supervision Hold monthly one-on-ones with RAs to advise them with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of student planned programming efforts Assist with the supervision of student workers (desk attendants, mail clerks and office assistants) Oversee a Residence Life specific committee (recognition and staff development) RA Training & RA Selection Assists the office of Residence Life in the planning of Resident Assistant training and RA selection Plans and coordinates RA In-Services (2 per semester) and Resident Assistant staff development Marketing & Social Media Develop and publish a monthly building newsletter and parent newsletter Responsible for implementing social media strategies and engaging with residents on social networks Special Projects Plans and facilitates off-campus housing workshops, roommate matching events and other related programs in conjunction with the Office of Student Activities (Typically first year graduate assistants will oversee this project) Advises Residence Hall Council. (Typically second year graduate assistants will oversee this project) Participate in campus wide committees to help educate students on topics such as diversity/cultural awareness, LGBTQ education, and health/wellness and personal development Other special projects as necessary On-Call & Student Conduct Participates in Residence Life (ROC) Duty Rotation (This includes weekends, after hours, break periods and holidays.) When on-call, acts as the primary contact for on-campus emergencies or crises. Writes Incident Reports as appropriate and attends Code of Conduct meetings to discuss incidents. Adjudicates minor level cases and assists the Dean of Students Office with educational campaigns to educate MCPHS University community on policy infractions and responsibility. Makes effective referrals to counseling or academic services, and familiarizes self with campus resources. Assist in roommate conflicts and mediations Complete Health & Safety Inspections with RA - once a semester Administrative Attends weekly Residence Life meetings as well as various College community functions Assists with departmental assessment and planning initiatives. Assists with the opening and closing of residence halls. Is available, visible, and approachable to students within the college community through 20 hours of weekly office hours Attends and participants in monthly professional development workshops provided by the Division of Student Affairs.
