2016-2017 Academic Year Graduate Assistant Harvard Divinity School - Office of Career Services — Cambridge, Massachusetts The Harvard Divinity School (HDS) Career Services Graduate Assistant will gain practical higher education experience in student advising and program management. A commitment of two semesters (mid-August to mid-May) is expected and will allow the Graduate Assistant to participate in, contribute to and experience the full cycle of HDS Career Services activities. The selected candidate will work closely with HDS students who come from diverse backgrounds and possess strong analytical, research and writing skills. Many HDS students take coursework in theology, comparative religion or philosophy while supplementing their education with coursework throughout the university. HDS students have an affinity for mission-driven organizations, especially in the fields of: arts/communications; community development/advocacy; higher education/research; management/consulting; ministry; public/private secondary education; public policy/law. More information about the Office of Career Services at HDS can be found here: http://hds.harvard.edu/life-at-hds/career-services Anticipated duties, responsibilities or projects include: • Consults with students on job search techniques and tools, resume writing, CV writing and interview preparation • Provides support to students, alumni and employers on Hired (the on-line career management system shared by the Harvard Divinity School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education) and analyzes monthly reports generated by the Hired system on student, alumni and employer activity • Contributes to weekly Career Connections newsletter for HDS students • Assists in the design, publicity and coordination of fall and spring semester career services events • Represents Career Services at a variety of employer events; researches employment opportunities, internships, and fellowships; educates students on available positions • Represents Career Services at HDS events, such as Orientation, Theological Education Day and Spring Open House • Manages and organizes Career Resource Library, as well as online and paper resources • Fields general inquiries (email, telephone, and walk-in) for the office and refers as necessary Qualifications • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher). • Ability to work independently as well as part of a small team, set priorities and adjust to changing situations. • Interest in working with graduate students. • Previous work experience in a higher education setting desirable. • Video filming and editing Skills a plus Additional Information: Training on resume and cover letter critiques, interview preparation and networking will be provided with an initial emphasis on walk-in clients. Depending on the candidate’s areas of interest, opportunities will exist for special projects related to technology, marketing, communications and program delivery. This is a 15-17 hour per week position with schedule flexibility. Salary is $16.00/hr. Position reports to the HDS Director of Career Services.
