Plan and promote diverse and multicultural programs that reflect the needs of the campus community. Assist the Director of Multicultural Programs with creating trainings presentations and retreats. Maintain a comprehensive calendar of OMP events and meetings. Create an OMP Brochure. Advertise programs and workshops. Assist with the maintenance of OMP webpages. Attend meetings and workshops. Provide Director with monthly reports. Facilitate communications between students and staff through interactive dialog and social media for programming and marketing purposes Research student culture trends, and various features of new and existing programs for future improvement and development; participate in discussions of program strategy and student development Market and promote the OMP to increase awareness and student engagement Help prepare for Fall/Spring programming Assist in creating informal/formal surveys of student experience and perspective. Interpret and use information gathered from surveys to help OMP to develop programs that best serve the students interests • • • • Make the OMP Facebook page interactive, fun, and informative File and maintain up-keep of office. Contact and interface with agents and vendors Other duties as assigned Expected learning outcomes of the Intern position: • Work with students and professionals from a variety of backgrounds and lifestyles. • Work with event coordination in all aspects of program preparation. • Develop group facilitation skills. • Develop skills to manage the prioritization of professional and personal responsibilities. • Learn techniques and methods of assessing, designing, and implementing interventions with individuals, groups and organizations. • Understand the organization and administration of the Office of Multicultural Programs. • Use appropriate assessment, evaluation, and research methodologies for the field of student affairs. • Develop critical thinking and decision-making skills. • Develop problem-solving skills. • Use educational technology and computer software applications. • Understand and utilize university and student affairs resources. • Develop teamwork skills and the ability to interact successfully Within peer and student groups. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: As an official liaison of the Institute and a trained professional member of the SAO staff, the intern is expected to handle his/her responsibilities maturely and exhibit exemplary conduct while on the job. The graduate intern should be able, and have a desire, to work with students, faculty, and staff and serve as a resource to constituent groups, including student organizations and campus departments. Applicants should have good communication and organizational skills, as well as openness to diverse perspectives. Applicants should be able to take initiative in new projects. Applicants should have a strong interest in advising and learning from students while working with them to reach their goals. An understanding of, or interest in, issues related to diversity is encouraged. All applicants must meet the following: ! Have earned a Bachelor’s degree (BA or BS) from an accredited institution. ! ! Have been accepted into a graduate program, preferably related to student development, higher education, or multiculturalism. Be able to work some evening and weekend hours, when necessary. DURATION: The graduate internship position officially begins on August 27, 2015 and ends May 16, 2016. The intern will be expected to work an average of 5-10 hours per week.
