Process for Developing a Service Learning Project Contact QCC Service Learning (SL) Team to request information/support for partnership Professor develops a SL course; needs a community-based organization (CBO) with whom to collaborate on project Or CBO has a project that would be a good learning experience/may need college resources QCC Service Learning Team researches/offers partnership opportunities Two potential partners (faculty + CBO) meet to discuss possibility of collaboration; QCC service learning team member(s) may also be present Agreement to collaborate; project is jointly planned (several meetings/calls may be needed) Professor develops course syllabus with SL component CBO develops project plan within organization Professor explains to students how project fits with course objectives CBO provides orientation to students Students begin to work on project with CBO Professor has students reflect and think critically about what they are observing and learning as they do their work Students apply course concepts in their service work, continuously reflecting on how their work informs their didactic learning CBO guides and directs the work of the students, providing ongoing feedback to them and to the professor As project comes to conclusion…. Professor evaluates students on service and learning Students evaluate their work and the process of the project team CBO evaluates work of students and outcomes for organization/community Academic presentations made to stakeholders; outcomes celebrated (one method of reflection/integration) Faculty and CBO consult on an assessment of the entire process and make decisions about an ongoing relationship. QCC Service Learning team follows up with both to gather information on outcomes.
