Overview
Biotechnology Lab students become mentors to high school
students. They plan and lead three hands-on workshops
involving wet lab experiments and teach them the concepts
of DNA, Cells, DNA extraction from a cell, PCR amplification
and Gel electrophoresis
Course Objectives
Students reinforce their study skills, communication skills
and data interpretation skills as well as course specific
knowledge.
Interests of Partner
High School students gain college lab experience and
increase their interest in STEM-related field.
Activities/Product
High school students come to QCC for three workshops;
each workshop is approx. 3 hours long. QCC students teach
what they learned during the semester. Students set up and
carry out experiments together. During the 3rd workshop,
high school students make presentations on what they
learned.
