Drexel Picture Gallery, Main Building) Not only were the Drexels important in the world of business and philanthropy in the 19th century, but they were also patrons of the arts, the subject of artists, and many were artists themselves. Come tour the main display areas of the Drexel Collection — Anthony J. Drexel Picture Gallery and Rincliffe Gallery. Tours will depart from the Great Court of the Main Building at 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Tours will depart in groups of 30. Sponsored by the Drexel Collection, University Communications 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.: Tour of the Robert & Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection (Leonard Pearlstein Gallery, 3401 Filbert Street) Drexel’s Robert & Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection is one of the finest and oldest research collections in the country, housing more than 14,000 notable garments, accessories, and textiles. More than 75 of these are currently on display in Immortal Beauty, the first large-­‐scale exhibition of the collection. Highlighting more than 250 years of international high style, the retrospective includes garments by such luminaries as Charles James, Gabrielle Chanel, Halston, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Dior, Mary Quant, and Elsa Schiaparelli. Fox Historic Costume Collection curator Clare Sauro will provide a guided tour of the exhibition, discussing shifts in high fashion and the collection’s ties to Drexel. This is a great way for parents to network, meet members of the Drexel Family Association, and spend time with the deans from the Student Life Leadership Team. Complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served. *You must be 21 years of age or older to attend this event. 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.: Astronomy Observation Night (Lynch Observatory, Main Building) The Drexel University Department of Physics invites families and their students to an observation session atop the Main Building at the Joseph R. Lynch Observatory, home to the largest telescope in Philadelphia. Directed by Professor Gordon Richards with support from physics grad and undergrad assistants, the group will view a variety of celestial objects, including planets, nebulae, star clusters, and comets. These objects are seen via the department’s Meade LX200GPS Telescope with Schmidt-­‐Cassegrain 16" Optics. In case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled. Musical stylings from the Drexel Cleftomaniacs and performing arts groups from neighboring Philadelphia colleges and universities promise a very entertaining show. 8:00 p.m. – 10:05 p.m.: Richard Adams’ Watership Down adapted by John Hildreth (Mandell Theater, 33rd and Chestnut Streets) Join Drexel’s Theatre program in collaboration with Simpatico Theatre Project for the preview of Richard Adams’ Watership Down adapted by John Hildreth. Simpatico is a Mandell Professionals in Residence project and will be working with Drexel students on all aspects of the production. Drexel students can purchase tickets for $5 with their DragonCards at the door and those participating in Family Weekend can enter the code “Drexel” for $10 off all tickets purchased in advance. Tickets for the Philadelphia Zoo can be purchased at the venue: $16 per ticket; children 2 years of age and younger have free admission.
