Chapter Quizzes. During the term, there will be 4 short text chapter quizzes
consisting of 10 multiple choice questions from our assigned chapters (see page 6).
These quizzes will test the students’ ability to complete assigned text readings as
well as content comprehension. Students will have 15 minutes prior to the lecture
to complete the quiz. All quizzes are to be returned to the instructor at conclusion
of the time. Students failing to take the quiz on the scheduled date will not be able
to make-up the quiz without instructor approval prior to the quiz date or in the
event of extraordinary situations. Student minor illnesses, schedule conflicts,
tardiness, unscheduled vacations do not constitute an extraordinary situation. If
you feel a need to take a chapter quiz outside of the scheduled date, notify the

instructor via email by 24 hrs. prior to the quiz date. Quizzes will count for 80 points
toward your final grade.
COURSE ASSIGNMENTS (CONT’D):

2.
Class Attendance. Due to the nature of the class meeting schedule, attendance is
critical to the student’s success in the class and knowledge transfer. Therefore the
participation grade will be based on your regular attendance to each class meeting.
At the beginning of each class session, a student attendance roster will be available
for students to sign. On quiz days, attendance will be collected from individual
student quizzes. The class attendance will account for 70 points towards your final
grade.
3.
Class Project: Logistics/Supply Chain Industry Case – Written Analysis. Students will
be broken into self-selected teams of 4 members to analyze and present one of the
pre-selected Harvard Business Publishing cases for the course. Cases can be
purchased online (see pg. 1). Student teams must provide a response to all implied
or explicit questions found at the end of the case discussion. The objective of this
project is to gain an understanding of how to assess problems of practice in the
supply chain industry and the development of solutions companies use to support
overall customer, industry, logistics, and profit objectives. One case per team will be
selected on a “first come, first served” basis. The instructor will maintain a listing of
all team members and selected case. Write-ups will need to include any references
(including the case) used to generate the response to questions. This reference will
need to be cited in the paragraph using American Psychological Association (APA)
format as well as being listed on a detailed reference listing at the end of response.
Appendices, cover page, figures, reference listing, etc. are not counted as part the
response page limit. Be sure to adhere to the page number limitation for the writeup to focus your team’s responses on the relevant facts and issues judged to be the
most important by the team as opposed reiterating the facts of the case. Do not
simply repeat the case facts as your team’s solution; this will result in a 0 for the
assignment. The expected deliverable due to the instructor is an electronic/soft
copy of the team’s analysis in MS Word format. This will need to be uploaded to the
Carmen dropbox one day prior to the date of the team’s presentation. The
expected deliverable is not to exceed 7 letter-sized (8 ½” x 11”), double line
spacing, type-written pages in 12 pt. Times New Roman font. The team’s paper will
account for 100 points towards the final grade. A grading template is attached at
the end of this document.
4.
Class Project: Logistics/Supply Chain Industry Case – Team Presentation. Student
teams will present to the class a 10-15 minute in-class presentation outlining their
analysis. Teams will present to the class a summary of the case and their analysis
developed during the write-up. Any data (e.g. academic articles, case, industry
journals, periodicals, videos, or other sources of relevant information) that is
relevant to the team’s written response will need to be included in the presentation
as well. The expected deliverable due to the instructor is an electronic/soft copy of
the team’s presentation deck in MS PowerPoint format. This will need to be
uploaded to the Carmen dropbox one day prior to the date of the team’s
presentation. The team’s presentation will need to have all sources used to
generate the presentation cited on individual slides when used using American
Psychological Association (APA) format as well as providing a detailed reference list
at the end of slide deck. The team’s presentation will account for 50 points towards
the final grade. A grading template is attached at the end of this document.

Final Exam: A final comprehensive exam will be given during the course consisting
of 50 multiple choice questions drawn from the text readings covered in the course.
Questions will contain text material which may or may not have been discussed in
our class meetings but are important to understanding logistics/supply chain
operations. To assist in exam preparation, I will distribute a pre-exam review/study
guide sheet to the class at least one week prior to the final exam date (10/16); this
sheet will be posted to Carmen for downloading. Any student failing to take the
final exam on the scheduled date will not be able to make-up the exam except for
extraordinary situations. Student minor illnesses, schedule conflicts, tardiness,
unscheduled vacations do not constitute extraordinary situations to be considered
for final exam make-up. The final exam will account for 150 points towards your
final grade
6.
Guest Speaker Attendance. During the course, we will have the opportunity to host
senior level supply chain managers from leading companies in the Columbus area.
These speakers will provide critical insights to the importance of logistics from a
corporate perspective as well as current or emerging industry trends in business,
employment, and technology. The objective of this event is to provide the student
with a practitioner’s perspective of logistics within her/his business, customers, and
market. Attendance is mandatory for all students as this event will provide timely
and unique information about the logistics industry. Due to this, there is no makeup assignment for students missing a guest speaker. On the day we host a guest
speaker, attendance will be taken at the beginning of class to mark individual
attendance in the class and speaker event. Guest speaker attendance will account
for 50 points towards your final grade.
7.
Industry Visit. During the course, we will have an opportunity to visit a company in
the Columbus area to review their logistics operations. The company selected for
this event is a leader in their market through the efficient use of their logistics
organization. The objective of this visit is to provide the student with a “real world”
perspective on how logistics/supply chain operations are employed in
industry. Attendance is mandatory for all students as this event will provide timely
and unique information about the logistics industry. Due to this, there is no makeup assignment for students missing an industry visit. Industry visits will account for
50 points towards the final grade.
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
You are expected to approach this course with the same level of professionalism you
would be required exhibit in the workforce. To ensure success in the classroom for our
guest speakers, instructors, and students, there are 5 general classroom instructions we
must all follow;
1. Adverse Weather – during the semester we may face inclement weather conditions.
In the event of a weather-related event, the university will issue the appropriate
action up to am including cancellation of classes. All notices will be sent via the
Buckeye Alert system and local news agencies.
2. Attendance Procedure – Due to the shortened session and having an opportunity
“to put a name to a face”, I will be taking attendance at the beginning of each class.
Students who come in late will need to ensure I account for their attendance at the
1st break.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
All tests, written exercises, and papers are to be your own work. Academic integrity is
essential to maintaining an environment that fosters excellence in teaching, research,
and other educational and scholarly activities. Thus, the Ohio State University and the
Committee on Academic Misconduct (COAM) expect that all students have read and
understand the University’s Code of Student Conduct, and that all students will
complete all academic and scholarly assignments with fairness and honesty. Students
must recognize that failure to follow the rules and guidelines established in the
University’s Code of Student Conduct and this syllabus may constitute “Academic
Misconduct.”

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY (CONT’D):
The Ohio State University’s Code of Student Conduct (Section 3335-23-04) defines
academic misconduct as: “Any activity that tends to compromise the academic integrity
of the University, or subvert the educational process.” Examples of academic
misconduct include (but are not limited to) plagiarism, collusion (unauthorized
collaboration), copying the work of another student, and possession of unauthorized
materials during an examination. Ignorance of the University’s Code of Student Conduct
is never considered an “excuse” for academic misconduct, so I recommend that you
review the Code of Student Conduct and, specifically, the sections dealing with
academic misconduct.
If I suspect that a student has committed academic misconduct in this course, I am
obligated by University Rules to report my suspicions to the Committee on Academic
Misconduct. If COAM determines that you have violated the University’s Code of
Student Conduct (i.e., committed academic misconduct), the sanctions for the
misconduct could include a failing grade in this course and suspension or dismissal from
the University. If you have any questions about the above policy or what constitutes
academic misconduct in this course, please contact me.

USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES:
The use of electronic devices (cell phones, digital recorders, laptops, tablet PC, or other

devices during class periods creates a disorderly or distracted environment taking away
from the course content, goals, etc., their use in the class will be discontinued. In this
occurs, the devices are to be powered down and stowed during the class period. Failure
to comply with this policy request may result in a student’s dismissal from the class and
loss of any in-class points (including and not limited to exams, presentations, etc.). For
more information see OSU Code of Student Conduct, § 3335-23-04 Prohibited Conduct
Policy, http://trustees.osu.edu/rules/code-of-student-conduct/3335-23-04.html.
Additionally, should a student need to electronically record any portion of the
discussion, lecture, or presentation you will need to obtain the instructor’s authorization
24 hours prior to the event and use of recording device.
