Demonstrated knowledge of special education theory and practice Thorough knowledge of special education procedures and compliance issues. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups and individuals. Knowledge of current computing technologies and software applications appropriate to the position’s responsibilities. Ability to perform the functions of the position. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Participate in and promote activities that will improve inclusive education. Promote the Best Practices for Inclusive Education to all school staff, parents, and students. Coordinate professional development activities with the Florida Inclusion Network, FDLRS, and school district Professional Development Department. Consult with teachers, school staff, and administration regarding strategies and teaching techniques to foster inclusive education. Serve as the liaison/trainer to school and district staff regarding inclusion education for exceptional student education. Assist schools with completing self-study for promotion of Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) for students. Assist schools in developing the school based LRE teams and monitor their effectiveness in promoting LRE. Work with each school to assist in the design of an LRE Plan to meet the percentages required in the local and state designated performance plan relative to the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education settings. Assist school based teams in making educational decisions which foster inclusive education. Design and promote opportunities in conjunction with school based staff to provide inclusionary environments for students with severe cognitive disabilities. Analyze data for students with disabilities participating in the least restrictive placements as compared to their non-disabled peers. Work with zone staffing specialists and school based staff to determine appropriate ratios of teacher to student. Work with teaching and learning personnel to develop appropriate strategies to be utilized in the differentiation of instruction to meet the need of diverse learners. Provide training in conjunction with the Professional Development department, Florida Diagnostic and Resources System, and the Florida Inclusion Network on Leadership for Inclusive Schools, Differentiated Instruction, Flexible Scheduling, and Inclusive Education. Assist schools in the alignment of Best Practices for Inclusive Education to other initiatives and mandates such as the State Performance Plan, School Improvement Plan, Student Progression Plan, Positive Behavior Supports, and Response to Intervention. Follows adopted policies and procedures in accordance with School Board priorities. Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District’s Mission Statement. Performs other duties as assigned.
