The PACTC Meeting of Thursday, November 14, 2013 was called to order by President Cheryl
Blackburn at 8:45 A.M.
CONFIRMATION OF COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS
Cheryl discussed modifying the by-laws to allow for either longer or no term limits for
committee membership. Discussion ensued about the scope of the by-laws and amending them
to include language to add new executive assistants to committees upon first attendance to a
PACTC meeting. Motion to change committees and change term limit – Candace moved to make
changes; Cheri Steele seconded; motion carried. Committee assignments will be address at
PACTC meetings.
New wording for by-laws - All attendees will serve on a committee. Melinda Dourte motioned;
Lisa Radeleff seconded; motion carried.
Mentoring and Recognition Committee
The goal of the Mentoring and Recognition Committee is to acknowledge incoming and outgoing
members of PACTC. Mentors will be assigned to new assistants to provide them with someone
who can guide them through their first months as a president’s assistant. This committee is also
responsible for recognizing retiring or outgoing members, and sending notes
of encouragement during challenging times. The committee will also be responsible for
recognizing the outgoing president with a personalized gavel.

Professional Development and Budget Committee
The function and scope of the Professional Development and Budget Committee is to make
recommendations to PACTC of who should be awarded funds for meeting attendance and
professional development.
The committee has developed an application form to be completed each time a PACTC member
wants to be considered for a scholarship. Once the form is completed, it will be forwarded to
the PACTC listserv.

Program and Planning Committee
The Program and Planning Committee focuses on deciding how to pay for future speakers and
setting the amount of honorariums. It also suggests topics to the group for future PACTC
meetings.

BREAKOUT SESSION – COMMITTEE MEETINGS
Meetings of the Mentoring and Recognition, Professional Development and Budget and Program
and Planning Committees transpired from 9:15 A.M. – 10:00 A.M.
Sandy Zelasko reported for the Professional Development Committee. Sandy will forward all
topics to Suzi West at Yakima for the PACTC meeting scheduled for May 2014. Sandy requested
topic suggestions from other attendees. Cheryl suggested adding a wellness event. Sandy
suggested dressing for success.
DR. TOM KEEGAN – STEPHEN COVERY METHOD
Guest speaker, Dr. Tom Keegan, President of Skagit Valley College, spoke to the group about the
Stephen Covey Method and offered insight into what makes an effective assistant. He offered
ideas and practices to help us to become more efficient.
DEBORAH FRAZIER – VIRTUAL ACCREDITATION
Deborah Frazier, Vice President Finance and Administration for Peninsula College, spoke to the group
about Peninsula College’s recent experience as one of the first colleges in the system to participate in the
virtual accreditation process.
DESIREE MONROY – DEALING WITH STRESS AND ANXIETY
desiree Monroy presented tips and ideas for dealing with stress and anxiety on the job.
BUSINESS MEETING
Approval of Minutes from May 16-17, 2013 PACTC Meeting
Lisa Corcoran motioned to approve the minutes from the May 16-17, 2013
meeting; Keri Parriera seconded; motioned carried.
Treasurer’s Report
Melinda distributed and provided an overview of the PACTC Cash Flow Statement dated
November 12, 2013.
Candace Robbecke motioned to approve the financial report; Allison Smith seconded; motioned
carried.
Announcements
There were no announcements.
Next Meeting Date/Location
The next PACTC meeting will be held May 15-16, 2014 in Yakima
ADJOURNMENT
President Cheryl Blackburn adjourned the meeting at 4:15pm.
Day Two: Friday, November 15, 2014
Theresa Parker, Master Weaver from the Makah Tribe, shared her weaving art with the group.
Theresa provided strips of cedar for all attendees and taught everyone how to make a cedar rose
and how to twist the cedar to make a bracelet.

President Cheryl Blackburn adjourned the meeting at noon.
