Old Business
 Completion of Supplemental Guidelines. Review done with minor
revisions. The 2014 recommendation that intranasal/buccal versed not
be administered by school nurses will be struck as there is now a
policy in the Basic and Specialized Health Care Procedure Manual.
 Review of updated CGM procedure. The CGM is to identify trends in
the blood glucose levels, not to be used for calculating insulin dosages.

Dexcom and Minimed are the two types available. A few revisions
were made to the CGM policy.
 Sharing of completed draft procedures for discussion at future RESA
meetings or via email.
 Timelines for policy and manual to go to State Board projected to be
February 2015
VII.
New Business
 Inclusion of NASSNC/NASN data into 2014-15 School Nurse Needs
Assessment, RN face-to-face visits to be counted with data collected
about number of students returned to class, number sent home, and
number requiring 911 services.
 Any changes to 2014-15 School Nurse Needs Assessment. The link
for the current year’s data collection is available.
 WV Wellness Network was discussed and even though the Goals are
directly related to nursing activities in the schools, nursing is not
specifically mentioned. WVCOSN will draft a letter to address
nursing concerns, Kristin Stover will lead this effort. Jody Sperry,
President of WVASN will work with the association to draft a letter
also.
 Thoughts about WVEIS School Health screens (EHCP, School Health
data, Sick Bay and WVEIS iDevice App). Where do we go…rewrite
or contract? The iDevice upgrade is not working. Kanawha county
uses Healthmaster data system and Melinda Embry reports they are
pleased with it.
 2014/15 WVCOSN Goals
o School Nurse Needs Assessment inclusive of NASSNC/NASN
national data
o Revision of 2006 School Nurse Mentorship Manual and
WVLearns Introduction to School Nursing staff development
course. It was discussed and determined that the council would
take that project on as a goal for the coming year. Will
possible structure it around a similar rubric as used for the WV
Learns Course “Fitting Square Peg in a Round Hole”.
Emphasis will be made on making sure the intervention guides
are included in the manual, and expand the available guides to
reflect most common conditions.
o Identify new WVLearns Seasoned School Nurse Facilitators
for School Nurse graduate credit course called “Fitting a
Square Peg into a Round Hole”. Will be paid $1000 to learn
how to facilitate 7 week course and then $1000 per each course
facilitated. No volunteers from the WVCOSN and Jody Sperry
will check with the WVASN for those interested.
