Review of WVCOSN By-Laws and 2014/15 Directory Liaison to WVASN who will attend their meetings to report is Amanda Ashley. IV. Election of new Secretary – Amanda Ashley from RESA 1. V. Minutes approved from April 24-25, 2014 meeting at Stonewall Resort VI. Old Business Completion of Supplemental Guidelines. Review done with minor revisions. The 2014 recommendation that intranasal/buccal versed not be administered by school nurses will be struck as there is now a policy in the Basic and Specialized Health Care Procedure Manual. Review of updated CGM procedure. The CGM is to identify trends in the blood glucose levels, not to be used for calculating insulin dosages. The Greenbrier Resort 300 W. Sharing of completed draft procedures for discussion at future RESA meetings or via email. Timelines for policy and manual to go to State Board projected to be February 2015 VII. New Business Inclusion of NASSNC/NASN data into 2014-15 School Nurse Needs Assessment, RN face-to-face visits to be counted with data collected about number of students returned to class, number sent home, and number requiring 911 services. Any changes to 2014-15 School Nurse Needs Assessment. The link for the current year’s data collection is available. WV Wellness Network was discussed and even though the Goals are directly related to nursing activities in the schools, nursing is not specifically mentioned. WVCOSN will draft a letter to address nursing concerns, Kristin Stover will lead this effort. Jody Sperry, President of WVASN will work with the association to draft a letter also. Thoughts about WVEIS School Health screens (EHCP, School Health data, Sick Bay and WVEIS iDevice App). Where do we go…rewrite or contract? The iDevice upgrade is not working. Kanawha county uses Healthmaster data system and Melinda Embry reports they are pleased with it. 2014/15 WVCOSN Goals o School Nurse Needs Assessment inclusive of NASSNC/NASN national data o Revision of 2006 School Nurse Mentorship Manual and WVLearns Introduction to School Nursing staff development course. It was discussed and determined that the council would take that project on as a goal for the coming year. Will possible structure it around a similar rubric as used for the WV Learns Course “Fitting Square Peg in a Round Hole”. Emphasis will be made on making sure the intervention guides are included in the manual, and expand the available guides to reflect most common conditions. o Identify new WVLearns Seasoned School Nurse Facilitators for School Nurse graduate credit course called “Fitting a Square Peg into a Round Hole”. Will be paid $1000 to learn how to facilitate 7 week course and then $1000 per each course facilitated. No volunteers from the WVCOSN and Jody Sperry will check with the WVASN for those interested. Updates from WVDE WVDE/Office of special programs has received a grant of almost $10 million through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to focus on mental health needs of our communities. Monies will be used for infrastructure and for “Mental Health First Aide” trainings. IX. Next meeting location to be Stonewall Resort on Thursday, January 15th from 1:00 – 5:00pm and Friday, January 16, 2015 from 8:00am to 3:00pm. Meeting Accommodations and Travel Reimbursement Information: Breakfast (ham and sausage biscuit sandwiches) will be provided in our meeting room starting at 7:30am. Lunch (Greek salad with Tortilla soup) will be provided in the meeting room at 11:30am. At his time the drinks are coffee, tea and water. Please feel free to bring a soda beverage should you choose. The hotel room on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 will be billed to your individual credit cards. Please obtain a zero balance receipt to include with your travel so WVDE will reimburse you.
