After finishing secondary school, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger studied, completed his doctorate, and did
post-doctoral studies at the University of Stuttgart in the subject of mechanical engineering, after which he
took on early managerial positions in applied research and teaching.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger founded and led Fraunhofer IAO (Institute for Work Management and
Organization) and the Institute for Work Science and Technology Management (IAT) at the University of
Stuttgart. From 2002 to 2012, he was President of the Fraunhofer Society in Munich.
From 2006 to 2012, he was Chairman of the Industry-Science Research Alliance of the Federal Ministry of
Education and Research along with Dr. Arend Oetker.
Since 2013, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger has been senator of the Fraunhofer Society.
In addition to his position on the Schaeffler AG Supervisory Board, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger is a member
of the University Council of the Distance Learning University of Hagen, a fellow of the Royal Academy of
Engineering (UK), and, from 2012 to 2015, was involved with various high-level groups (HLG) in the European
Commission.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger has received numerous awards and several honorary doctorates for his
committed work, plus two honorary professorships. In 2009, he was elected as “Manager of the Year” by
Manager magazine, and he was inducted into the “Hall of Fame of German Research” in 2013. In 2014, Prof.
Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger was awarded the “Schoeller Prize” as an honorary fellow of the Dr. Theo and Friedel
Schoeller Research Center for Economics and Society.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Bullinger is the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of ARRI AG, Munich, and of TÜV
SÜD AG, Munich, Vice Chairman of the Supervisory Board of WILO SE, Dortmund, and a member of the
Supervisory Board of Bauernfeind AG, Zeulenrode-Triebes.
