Charged with the promotion of Irish food and drink and achieving the ambitious export targets in Food Harvest 2020, the organisation continues to optimise the deployment of its specialist marketing resources and staff to maintain a market research and promotion capability required by an industry seeking to increase exports and employment. This necessitates using resources to the fullest, focusing on priorities, being innovative and efficient, finding better ways of doing things, being mindful of the need for value for money and using technology to the fullest extent possible to drive operational and resource efficiencies. Target Date for Implementation Action/commitment Introduction of 360 degree feedback and focus on competency development. 2012 Bord Bia’s Mission and Food Harvest 2020 initiatives are facilitated by the transfer of staff resources to areas of greatest need to improve service delivery to clients and stakeholders while also facilitating the completion of major projects and events. The agility to pull together expert cross functional teams, through re-prioritisation and management of workload is essential to meet evolving priorities. Prioritisation Initiatives: Redeployment from Marketing Services to Strategic Information Services to strengthen client services in the area of Innovation. Innovation leading to differentiation is a key theme of Pathways for Growth and consumer insight is the critical competency that Bord Bia can bring to play to raise the level of innovation and its impact in delivering on the targets of Food Harvest 2020. Collaboration between the Ireland Market Division and the UK overseas office, directed by the London office, to facilitate delivery of a more robust service to UK and Ireland foodservice and retail sectors, exploiting synergies between both markets where there is a common customer organisation and where companies treat both markets as one. Staff collaboration plan to reduce the application deadline of our grants programme from 84 days to 12. Staff collaboration and short-term reassignments to deliver major events – Marketplace International 2012, Bloom 2012, etc. Marketing Services and Ireland Market Promotions teams have been merged to create synergies for the delivery of the Food Brand Ireland theme. An internal resource is being reallocated, on a part time basis, to facilitate international market access and new customers for the pigmeat industry, a key priority for the sector. The role of the entrepreneurship and small business department management has been reallocated amongst the staff of the Food and Beverages Division to cater for staff on extended leave. 2012 2012 2012 2012 2012 2012 2012 Page 2 of 6 2. Better Business Processes To include, for example actions to increase efficiency and productivity; rationalise core structures, business processes, accommodation requirements etc; establish shared service approaches, establish cross-functional teams/ new work structures, optimise the potential of new technology to streamline operations and generate efficiencies etc. Terms of the Public Service Agreement 2010 - 2014 Shared Services Action/commitment The substitution of our commercial contract for Disaster Recovery with a solution to be provided by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Infrastructure for telephony in Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to be used. Project is progressing, connections are now in place and testing has been completed. Authorisation for the procurement of handsets is awaited. Eight offices out of ten have been connected via new network and plans are in place for completion during remainder of 2012. A Project Management Office has been developed, to build on the results-oriented focus of Bord Bia, evaluating and screening the development of new initiatives as well as ongoing major projects within the organisation. Enabling Bord Bia to demonstrate its capacity to deliver value for money with expenditures consistent with the focus of the Public Service Agreement. A cost reduction programme implemented progressively since 2008 has led to a reduction in non-pay annual operating expenditure of 31% from 2007 to 2011. Delivering for the Citizen To include, for example, actions to enhance service delivery to the public, including changes to the technology used, more online services, service integration, efforts to reduce information burdens on citizens through better data management/sharing of data, including around identity etc Terms of the Public Service Agreement 2010 - 2014 4.13 Action/commitment Target Date as per Current Action Plan Environmental sustainability and performance is now assuming a growing importance and has the capacity to create competitive advantage while underpinning the green and natural image that are fundamental to the premium market positioning of quality assured production and the Brand Ireland initiative. Sustainability - the Carbon Footprint of farms in the Bord Bia quality assurance programmes is being measured as part of the quality assurance audit at no additional cost to Bord Bia or the farmer. To date, some 14,000 farms have been measured and it is anticipated all 32,000 farms in the quality assurance scheme will be measured by the end of 2012. This process is advancing the sustainability initiative and creating positive savings for farmers as details are fed back to farmers enabling them to improve their footprint and also reduce costs. 2012 In collaboration with Teagasc, Bord Bia is developing a carbon footprint model for the Dairy industry. This will be completed at no additional cost during 2012. 2012 The communication and dissemination of information on the sustainability initiative to overseas markets and customers is a key priority, this will be facilitated by the redeployment of an internal resource, on a part time basis. 2012 Joint media itinerary initiative: An initiative to share the administrative and hosting workload, including travel and accommodation, for Page 5 of 6 Terms of the Public Service Agreement 2010 - 2014 Action/commitment Target Date as per Current Action Plan journalist and media visits from the international food and travel media, has been agreed and concluded with Fáilte Ireland. 2012 Marketplace International 2012: Workshops are being implemented to ensure that the 177 Irish food and drink companies attending the event are better prepared to secure additional exports for Ireland from the 400+ buyers attending the th event on February 7 , 2012. 2012 Page 6 of 6
