082500 Here we are on the verge of another weekend. Oh Happy Day! Oh Sad My Heart. This will be the last genuine weekend of the summer season. On Monday, all the kiddies big and small will be returning to school. That includes Abby returning to WMU for her sophomore year, Molly starting her senior year her at GVSU and my continuing effort to acquire some kind of degree. Saturday will see The Sandstress, the one who puts the sens in my ible, helping Abby get moved into her off-campus apartment. Abby recently announced that the TV she received as a graduation present last year, and which was perfect for her dorm room, is now, sadly, much too small for the living room of her apartment. She MUST have a larger one for adequate viewing pleasure. Hellooooo! And, while were at it -- Hellnoooooo! You’re in college and deprivation is part of the learning process. Part of the college experience is discovering how to set priorities and identify what is important. Sandy, bless her heart, explained in a rational way the difference between wants and needs. I’m not certain if Abby was buying it, so we may not have heard the last of this little drama. Matters little to me. Sandy and I have no trouble saying NO to inappropriate and purposeless requests. It’s what parents are supposed to do and we’re getting pretty good at it.. We don’t have much choice….
