Summary of CHAS UCC Undergraduate-Level Curriculum Proposals - 2016 Curriculum
On September 16th and 23rd, the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC) reviewed the
CHAS - Science portion of the CHAS Undergraduate Curriculum Packet.
The CHAS-sciences packet was approved (pending any changes noted in the UCC minutes) by
the UCC.
Summary of Changes for CHAS – Sciences
1) Biology
a. 7 automatic course drops ; 3 courses dropped due to dropped minor;
b. Adding 3 courses (BIOL 1070, 3118, 3118) each of which have been taught at
least once as experimental
c. Edits to 8 existing courses (BIOL 1033, 3100, 3140, 3179, 4116, 4127, 4153,
4157)
d. Edits (restatements) made to many programs in biology due to adding electives or
removing dropped courses (BA-BIOECOEVO, BA-BIOLOGY, BS-BIOLOGY,
BA-BIOMED, BA-BIOTCHG)
2) Chemistry and Biochemistry
a. 1 course being added (CHEM 4505); offered previously 3 times
b. Edits to 2 courses (CHEM 4110, 4310)
c. Edits (restatements) made to BS-BIOCHEM and CHEM-MINOR by including
several courses as electives
3) Computer Sciences
a. 2 courses being dropped
b. Adding 2 courses (CS 3110, 4420)
c. Edits to 6 courses (CS 1520, 2420, 2530, 3120, 3179, 3730)
d. Edits (restatements) made to BA-COMPSCI, BS-COMPSCI, COMPSCI-CERT,
BS-NETSYSADM due to new course additions, additional elective options
4) Earth Sciences
a. Dropping 6 courses due to automatic course drop or due to loss of previously
offered major
b. Adding 4 courses (EARTHSCI 1400, 3150, 3322, 4150) that will each add to new
minor proposals except for EARTHSCI 3150 which is being offered as upper
level elective after previously being offered
c. Edits to 7 courses (EARTHSCI 3130, 3140,3210,3220,3230,3240,3250)
d. Addition of 4 minors (Air Quality, Astronomy, EnvSci, Geology)
5) Mathematics
a. 5 automatic dropped courses
b. 1 added course (STATS 4773)
c. Edits to 2 courses (MATH 3304, STAT 4772)
d. Edits (restatements) made to BA-MATHSTATACTSCI and MATH-MINOR due
to drop of electives; edits to BA-MATHTCHG and MATHTCHG-MINOR due to
changes in course and gpa requirements
e. Offering new CERT-STATISTICALCOMP
6) Physics
a. 1 automatically dropped course
b. Edits to 2 courses (PHYSICS 3000, 4310)
c. Offering a new CERT-PHYSICTHCG – 16-18 hours

editorial changes such as adding junior standing, description change, term offered

and elective courses
On Sept 23rd and 30th, the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee (UCC) reviewed the
Humanities and Fines Arts (HFA) portion of the CHAS Undergraduate Curriculum Packet.
The CHAS-HFA packet was approved (pending any changes noted in the UCC minutes) by the
UCC.

a. 7 automatically dropped courses
b. Edits made to 13 courses (ART 1011, 1022, 2050, 2070, 3001,3050,3055,
3070,3077, ARTED 2500, 2600, 3505,4500); many of the edits included course
description changes
c. Restatements to BA-ARTHIST and ARTHIST-MINOR to reflect dropped classes
2) Communications Sciences and Disorders
a. 1 course added (CSD 3196)
b. Edits to 3 courses (CSD 3190, 3195, 4150)
c. BA-COMDIS major restatement to include new description
