Lesson Plan #1 Orientation to Developmental Career Guidance Program Grade 10 rade Lesson Title: Orientation to Developmental Career Guidance Program for Grade 10 Time Required: 45 minutes Content Standards: Career Development - Provide the foundation for the acquisition of skills, attitudes and knowledge enabling students top make a successfully transition from school to the world of work and from job to job across the life career span. Indicators: 7.2.1.g Students will understand the importance of planning. 7.2.2.c Students will develop and awareness of personal abilities, skills, interests. 7.2.3.a Students will develop skills to locate, evaluate and interpret career information. GOAL: The Student will develop an understanding of career guidance and the procedures and expectations as set forth by the West Virginia Department of Education (Policy 2510) and the West Virginia Department of Career and Technical Education for career education in grade 10 as well as the selection of a career concentration, Educational Pathway and development of the final three years of the Individual Student Transition Plan (ISTP. Activity Statement: Students will learn about the academic and career planning requirements of the 10 th grade and update their student career folders (created in grade 8) to use as a resource in for career planning and development. Materials: Student Career Folders Procedures: 1) Schedule computer lab. 2) Take students into the computer lab. Have students who do not already have an account and walk them through the www.cfwv.com or the www.careercruising.com website (the one your school will be using with students. 3) Share other relevant websites students may find helpful in career planning. 4) Discuss the role of the school counselor in career planning. 5) Discuss the meaning of the phrase, “If you fail to plan; you plan to fail.” 6) Review Goals of the 10th grade developmental career guidance program. 7) Distribute the student’s career folder allow the student to update and review its contents. Discussion: Student thoughts about developing a career plan.
