Projections and opportunities

Demand for fisheries products is expected to rise in the future. Based on current demand, another 27 million tonnes of fish would be needed to maintain the present level of per capita consumption in 2030. FAO

(2010).

Developing countries – where the population is projected to increase from 5.6 billion in

2009 to 7.9 billion by 2050 and an additional 250 million to 310 million people will be urbanized by 2015 – are expected to be the main drivers of future consumption growth.

What can be done!!!

Micro-financing the fishery

Data collection & documentation improvements

Quality improvements on board

Up-scaling value addition

Market facilities upgrade

Industrialization of post harvest activities
