Physics Computing Facility 1 of 2 How to Change Your Physics Account Password Platforms: Windows 2000/XP/Vista Last Updated: 11/14/2007 1. Open the following link in a web browser of your choice (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.): http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe You should then be prompted to either open or save the file, depending on your browser. Save the file to your desktop. 2. Go to your desktop and double click on the file to launch the application (putty.exe). The following window should appear: 3. Enter “physics-shell.ucsd.edu” as the hostname, and select “SSH” as the protocol, then click on the “Open” button. If this is your first time connecting a “PuTTY Security Alert” window will appear. Click “Yes” in the window to proceed. 4. A terminal window should appear with a “Login”: prompt. Type your username, then press the return key, followed by your password and the return key. You should then be logged in: 5. Type “passwd” at the prompt. Enter your existing password when prompted and the return key. Then enter your new password and return. You will be asked to enter it a second time for verification purposes. After changing your password, enter “logout” at the prompt and hit Return.
