Setting Up Outlook 2011 with a Physics Email Account
Platforms: Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later

1. Launch Outlook. Click on the "Tools" menu then select "Accounts...".
2. In the “Accounts” window select “E-mail account”.
3. In the sheet that opens, enter your “E-mail address” and “Password” then your “User name”. Select either
IMAP or POP from the “Type” drop down menu. In the “Incoming server” field enter physics-mail.ucsd.edu
and make sure Use SSL to connect (recommended) is checked.
4. If you are using a computer that will remain on campus, go to step 4a. If you are using a computer that will
stay off campus go to step 4b. If you are using a computer that will be used both on and off campus or while
traveling go to step 4c.
4a. In the “Outgoing server” field enter smtp.ucsd.edu, make sure both Override default port and Use
SSL to connect (recommended) are checked, then change the port field to 465. Click on the “Add
Account” button to continue. Skip to Step 6.

4b. In the “Outgoing server” field enter your Internet Service Providerʼs server. You will need to consult
your ISPʼs documentation and/or website for this information. Click on the “Add Account” button to
continue. Skip to Step 6.
4c. In the “Outgoing server” field enter smtp.ucsd.edu, make sure both Override default port and Use
SSL to connect (recommended) are checked, then change the port field to 465. Click on the “Add
Account” button to continue. Proceed to Step 5.
5. Back in the “Accounts” window, click on the “More Options...” button in the “Outgoing server” section. In the
sheet that appears, select User Name and Password from the “Authentication” drop down menu, then enter
your UCSD Active Directory (AD) Account (*not* your Physics) “User Name” and “Password”. Click on the
“OK” button.
6. Close the “Accounts” window,
then click on the send and
receive messages icon in the
toolbar.
Outlook is now configured to access
your Physics Email account. For
