Professor Ellyn Enisman CRDV 100-721 Welcome Letter Hi Everyone, Welcome to the Winter online section of Employment Practicum!!!!! I'd like to introduce myself. I am Professor Ellyn Enisman. I spent a great deal of my professional career in the employment industry, heading up East Coast Operations for a Global Staffing Firm, Recruiting in Corporate, and heading up Administration in a manufacturing environment. Each of these roles required me to recruit, interview, and hire staff in many different industries, as well as advise other corporations on the same. In addition, I currently maintain a career education/coaching practice where I specialize in helping college students and new grads compete in the job market. I have worked with students from over 35 colleges across the U. S. and I know what works and what doesn't when it comes to interviewing and job search strategy. I am a very big fan of Marist and believe Marist students can be very strong competitors in the job market and it is my goal to help you become a strong competitor. I am looking forward to working with you and to your growth in this area. This class is fully online and here are some important things to know. 1. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE BOOK. Job Interview Skills 101, the course you forgot to take. It is next to impossible to get through this course without it. The bookstore has it. It is also a book that will help you throughout your career and as you change jobs. Many of my more experienced clients use it later in their career to refresh their interviewing skills. 2. You should be checking ilearn and your email, daily, for messages. 3. We will have weekly work which will include forums, individual assignments to submit through ilearn, and group work which will take place in the forums. Some weeks will have all of this and some weeks may have only 1 thing. We will also have a Final, which will be taken from the required book. You will use the book to complete the final exam. 4. We will be using forums to collaborate and share thoughts in groups and as a class. The syllabus identifies which weeks have forums so make sure you aware of the dates. The forums add up to a lot of points, make sure you complete them within the time frame allotted and by the due dates assigned. My ilearn site has statistics that show me your forum effort, so please read all posts and respond as the forum assignments require, by the dates they require. 5. READ THE SYLLABUS - it is a week by week break down of all the work we will be doing and the assignments, forums, etc and their due dates. This will help you keep on top of things and get your assignments in on time. 6. My contact info is ellyn.enisman@marist.edu, cell is 845-323-3835 and you can also message me through ilearn which is preferable. 7. Keep in mind that this Winter course has only 4 weeks and there is much to do. Stay on top of your assignments as you don't want to miss points. Although this is a 1 credit course, there is a decent amount of work that you will need to complete and if you do the work you will do well and you will be prepared well to compete in the job market. keep in mind that I will not chase you for assignments. It is easy to fall behind and very hard to catch up. If you maintain your effort you should do well. 8. If you are having difficulty or want to speak with me, skype with me, or meet with me, please call or email me. If you text me, tell me your name so I know who it is. I will do my very best to help you. 9. No question is silly. If you don't understand something or need help, reach out to me. Not reaching out is silly and it would be a shame to lose points because you didn't ask for help. I am very much looking forward to working with you. Please contact me with any questions. Ellyn
