Summer Pre-College PORTFOLIO DEVELOPMENT When Jamie spent two weeks of her summer at Marist’s campus in New York, she lived in a dorm, took a class in Fashion Design, and visited New York City to meet with industry professionals. But Jamie is, in fact, not a college student; Jamie attended the Summer Pre-College program before she even began her senior year of high school. Expand your academic and creative aspirations! Marist’s Summer Pre-College is a summer academic program exclusively for rising juniors and seniors in high school. During your time here, you’ll learn from experienced professionals and talented faculty, while spending 14 days in the heart of the historic Hudson River Valley. You’ll make new friends and maybe even discover what you want to be when you grow up. Think that’ll happen at a summer job? “25 Most Connected Campuses” by the Princeton Review. Do you have what it takes to become a fashion designer? Are you ready to pursue a career in the fashion industry? If yes, then the Marist Summer Pre-College Fashion Portfolio Development Program may be perfect for you. The curriculum is taught by the faculty of the highly regarded Fashion Program at Marist, who all have extensive experience in the fashion industry and related fields. In addition students will explore the development of a clothing line culminating in a final portfolio presentation by the end. Students will develop a strong understanding of fashion design and ultimately learn how to develop and improve their own fashion portfolio. Students will take field trips to New York City to visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the renowned Fashion Institute of Technology in order to explore fashion design outside of the classroom. 2016 Dates: July 10 - 23 The New York campus offers one of the most scenic settings in the heart of the Hudson River Valley, an area renowned for over 400 years of American history. The campus is bordered by the Hudson River on the western side and a lush 15-acre arboretum and hiking area on the northern end of campus. Program Goals: • • • • • • • Gain an understanding of the process of developing a collection. Introduce students to fundamental design concepts Gain experience building inspiration, mood and concept boards for presentations Develop advanced figure drawing techniques. Develop advanced textile and garment rendering techniques. Develop an understanding of garment details, silhouettes and garment construction. Participants learn about the industry from professionals who could become their professors if they attend Marist as undergraduate students Campus Life Students get the opportunity to experience college life by living in dorms, eating in the dining hall, and meeting new friends from around the world. They can explore the beautiful campus and get a sense of what college-life is like at Marist. Resume Building Students can boost their resume (and their career) by attending a 3-credit college class before they finish high school. They also have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and potentially earn letters of recommendation.
