Summer Pre-College ENTREPRENEURSHIP When Jason spent two weeks of his summer at Marist’s campus in New York, he lived in a dorm, took a business class, and traveled to New York City to meet with industry professionals. But Jason is, in fact, not a college student; Jason attended the Summer Pre-College program before he even began his senior year of high school. Expand your academic and creative aspirations! Marist’s Summer Pre-College is a summer academic program exclusively for rising juniors and seniors in high school. During your time here, you’ll learn from experienced professionals and talented faculty, while spending 14 days in the heart of the historic Hudson River Valley. If yes, than the Marist Summer Pre-College Entreprenurship Program may be perfect for you. This course will introduce students to what it means to be an entrepreneur and the many opportunities that exist in everyday living for creating new businesses. Guided by Marist faculty members with years of extensive experience, students will have the opportunity to engage in the actual processes that entrepreneurs use to create, test, and develop their ideas before creating a plan to attract prospective investors. The program helps student prepare and plan for academic success, all the while getting to know students who enjoy learning about a given subject area as much as them. The experience will be interactive and engaging, providing students with 2016 Dates: the tools for generating new ideas and July 10 - 23 fostering the entrepreneurial spirit. The New York campus offers one of the most scenic settings in the heart of the Hudson River Valley, an area renowned for over 400 years of American history. The campus is bordered by the Hudson River on the western side and a lush 15-acre arboretum and hiking area on the northern end of campus. Located 90 miles north of metropolitan New York City, the Marist location provides both breathtaking views and outstanding professional resources to enhance your college experience. Program Goals: • • • • • • Learn what it means to be an “entrepreneur.” Gain the ability to recognize and evaluate business opportunities from one’s ideas. Discuss the factors that go into creating, managing and growing an entrepreneurial firm.. Understand how to write a startup business plan as well as how to assemble the right team to initiate a successful startup. Evaluate and finance the new venture, while choosing an effective growth strategy. Upon successful completion of the Entrepreneurship Institute, each student will earn three (3) transferable college credits for the Marist College course, Introduction to Entrepreneurship. “Overall, the program at Marist was more than what I thought it would be. They can explore the beautiful campus and get a sense of what college-life is like at Marist. Resume Building Students can boost their resume (and their career) by attending a 3-credit college class before they finish high school. They also have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and potentially earn letters of recommendation.
