The final plan was reviewed by the UCC on October 13. Ramya and Mark Hoffman attended. There was no quarum at the end of the discussion, so a vote was postponed untill October 20. The memo from UCC chair Robert Adams states: At it's October 20th meeting, UCC reviewed the Final Plan. Although UCC viewed the Final Plan favorably, several items are needed before final support can be given. Please update the Final Plan to include these items. Once updated, please copy everyone listed above. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. 1. The final plan needs catalog copy including a suggested pattern of coursework. 2. Admission requirements for prospective students should be clear and complete, with regards to the "expected basic study" skills. 3. Suggested curriculum needs to be more clear with regards to electives vs. mandatory courses. E.g., italicized text on page 23 seems to refer to the list of electives immediately above it. 4. Please include a table that compares other programs alongside the proposed program, including a comparison of credit load between programs. 5. It would be helpful to provide a program assessment plan. For example, how will the long-term objectives on page 9 be measured? 6. Please indicate the number of online/hybrid courses. 7. Please explain the relationship of the proposed program with the Johnson Center for Philanthropy. Agenda item: Strategic Planning Discussion: Greg Cline updated the faculty on the College’s strategic planning efforts. The CCPS strategic plan has changed a bit from the version that was approved at the College-wide meeting. The current plan can be found here: http://faculty.gvsu.edu/hoffmanm/ccps_plan.xls At some point yet to be determined, we will need to update our department strategic plan to dovetail with this plan. Agenda item: Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Proposal Discussion: Mark Hoffman updated the faculty on the development of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability. The proposal is available for inspection via the “curriculum development” interface. Go to http://www.gvsu.edu/facultygov/ and click the curriculum development process button. Use your Novell network login and then select the “All Proposals” tab. Enter “New Certificate Program” as the program type. Rich Jelier commented that this is an unusual way to developing curriculum. Dan Blfour thought that the proposal is acceptable given that there was a two year trial period. 2
