Courses for MINOR IN PUBLIC PRAXIS / FALL 2011 Faculty: while many of you integrate Praxis – hands‐on, real world applications, public work – into your courses, many students are not aware that there is a Minor in Public Praxis. As you speak with students in your classes and advising sessions, please let them know of this opportunity. See Public Praxis website (search Public Praxis on Marist home page). Thank you. The Minor in Public Praxis requires 6‐7 courses (18 credits) from among four categories: Human Rights/Public Praxis 1, Human Values and Choice, Affluence and Poverty, and Public Praxis 11 (capping). Only one course listed here, without a specific experiential component, may count for the minor (course needs project‐keeper permission). See project‐keepers for courses listed with TBA. Public Praxis 1 (revised) encompasses Human Rights, knowledge and analysis of current world events/issues, social entrepreneurship, the multiplicity of human efforts toward a just and humane world, the theory and work of public praxis, and the achievement of solidarity among class participants and those with whom students work. The course is offered thematically. Note: Mar intends to take students to Calcutta during Winter Break to attend a seminar at the University of Calcutta on human trafficking (includes anti‐trafficking work) and to participate in the Sree Durga dump Project (part of Public Praxis’ Calcutta Children’s Project). Public Praxis 1: Global Slavery is strongly urged for those interested in participating in the Calcutta seminar (notice the course is being offered in two categories of the minor).
